As sequels to sci-fi action thrillers showcasing giant metallic fighters go, “Pacific Rim Uprising” is adroit and enjoyable. John Boyega, who’s also a regular in the new “Star Wars” pictures, stars as Jake Pentecost, the decidedly more roguish son of Idris Elba’s character from 2013’s “Pacific Rim.” He steals parts from scrapped Jaegers — the gigantic human-piloted machines that battled hordes of Kaiju (giant monsters, that is) in the first film. Early in the movie he meets a whiz-kid Jaeger bootlegger named Amara (Cailee Spaeny) and they both end up back in pilot school. With the world supposedly free from Kaiju threat, the movie spends its first hour toggling between “Top Gun”-style cadet rivalries and a corporate espionage plot that’s not unfamiliar, except that you almost never see it done well in this kind of movie
Rani Mukerji’s Hichki is a testament to the fact that a film doesn’t need to be dependent on a huge budget and promotions, as long as its heart in the right place. The film which revolves around mental health and the stigma surrounding mental disorder broke all sorts of stereotypes when it was released at the box office, winning the hearts of the audience and critics alike.
What’s Good: The Tom & Jerry play between Ajay Devgn & Saurabh Shukla, it makes you laugh throughout, very smartly written dialogues. What’s Bad: The plot gets unconvincing at places, few unnecessary songs & forced romantic angle between Ajay & Ileana. Loo Break: If you take it, you’ll either miss a good comic scene or a quirky dialogue. Take it on your own risk Watch or Not?: Watch this for some pure popcorn munching fun & some brilliant performances.
So the most viewed video on YouTube turns out to be a rather mediocre piece of nothing that'll be forgotten all too soon? I would like to say I'm surprised, but I'm really not. After all, if this is the same society that thinks that all heavy metal music is satanic, braindead superhero movies are high art, video games aren't art at all, The Guardian is a credible news source, Jeremy Corbyn is a competent leader, Jennifer Lawrence is the best actress of our generation, Russell Brand is the epitome of political wisdom, Amy Schumer is hilarious, Beyoncé is the best performer of all time, socialism is good, conservatives are evil, pretentious Chanel perfume ads are deep, being a loudmouthed vegan makes you a rebel and not an annoying fuckwit, Owen Jones has more than two brain cells to rub together, and that democracy is only worth something when it goes your way, anything is possible. It's like the fall of the Roman Empire all over again, with Gangnam Style and this being the bread and circuses of our time, being fed to the billions of mindless drones willing to eat them up. Anyway, enough negativity. Time for some great music instead that will make you think! Cheerio!
