The story of movie is great. We can feel the emotions of sikh soldiers through this movie. How the 21 soldiers fought 10000 Afghan was so intriguing and exciting that you can't comprehend with that.
Acting of Akshay Kumar was good but he can show more realism by doing some ground work on sikh community.
Visuals were good but not like Hollywood movies. So in this area they could improve.
Overall movie was great.

The battle of Saragarhi is considered to be one of the most inspiring stories of human valour and bravery not just in India , but the world over . Director Anurag Singh's filim Kesari is a fitting tribute to this story of Sikh soldiers. It's a compelling war drama that combines strong emotions with mind-blowing action episode. The filim's best moments are filled by a towering performance by Akshay Kumar The film is beautifully shot by Anshul chobey and the production design Subrata Chakraborty and Amit Ray is equally important in making this dry filim . Where the CGI also makes a big contribution in making this filim . Anurag Singh's entire technical team deserves a standing ovation for this filim

I am glad that the movie was like almost 80% what the reality was...it was beautifully directed..the dialogues with the background music..was no match for any other dialogue..they tried their best to show this movie and at the same time to give that olden times effect... probably the song were also more interesting..loved it

A true representation of the bravery of a sect. However, the film per se has over representation of emotion, drama. A better director would have given it first class status. No doubt the throngs of Bollywood fed Indians would revel in watching it. If we analyse it in Roger Ebert cynicism, a good thing too, several elements forcefully thurst into the film to highlight social causes etc - the saving of a woman from a fabricated cause - lend mediocrity to what could have been a wonderful education of 1897 to our popcorn patriotism fed GenNext. The costumes and action is realistic and wonderful of course, like the sensation Sholay caused, but that''s a given in today''s era. Again on the mediocrity, there is too much effort to provide humour in a long span of what can be compared to the period after the powerplay overs (overs 7 to 12) when suddenly you wonder if you''re watching Tarak Mehta ka ulta chashma. Of course all this is done to draw different audiences to the screen so that''s fine but it''s a bit long because one loses the connect with the movie''s identity of ''Krantikari'' at large. There''s good actual typical Punjabi in-your-face humour, sarcasm and subordination for those who understand it, with the ''rooster'' apparently talking so the junior officers take a subtle jibe at the senior officer who''s punished them with a compulsory hunger strike, but like I said a better director could make the same theme funnier for a more elite audience. Also I suggest bring in a different warrior from Akshay who Indian audiences have seen in multiple roles since 1994 so that the personality''s impact is better but that can be argued both ways since he adopts these roles well. He''s no Daniel Day Lewis though who will live in the conditions for months prior to the movie to prepare (Last of the Mohicans) and really look and feel the part. Seems like he''s walked straight out of his Bandra home and to the shooting site. Nice to see authentic costumes and equipment though, including the 1890s backpack. I saw the flick to see what Indian audiences are going through in the current era so was not entirely disappointed. My tip to the movie makers will always be - don''t dwell on a theme for too many seconds - humour or riveting sword swivelling

Our history is replete with innumerable stories of heroism, which will shock one and all. More shocking is the fact that so many such brave tales are not even known popularly. The Battle of Saragarhi is one such story. 10,000 soldiers fighting against a troop of just 21 men - on the story level itself, it’s quite intriguing and even exciting. A couple of filmmakers did show interest in this project but for various reasons, these ventures couldn’t materialize. Finally, Akshay Kumar along with Dharma Productions and director Anurag Singh made it happen with KESARI.

This is an inspiring movie with exemplary bravery on how to fight even in the hardest times of life and not give away. Anurag Singh's direction is good and Akshays acting was wonderful. This movie is mostly about the war background with the violence and blood which is overshadowed by the patriotism of the soldiers. Parineeti chopra makes us laugh and cry at times though, its a very small length character but that is impactful. Even though the movie deals with the lot of war and aggression, the film ends with tragedy. Though this is a true story, the director has worked very hard to make it impactful and not disturbing the true story.

It is the story of the last stand of brave 21 Sikh soldiers against 10000 Afghans. Here are seven reasons why I loved Kesari and why you will love it too. 1) Its history that matters - growing up in school, I was always learning the history of rulers who had abused there power for self aggrandisement. Yet, the real history of our brave heroes and martyrs could only be heard through folklores and anecdotes. Hence, I was pleasantly surprised when Bollywood offered a biopic based on my childhood heroes “the martyrs of Saragrahi”. 2) Its honest - The invaders from the western boarders to India came as savages and barbarians. They were responsible for countless genocides and destructions of cultural establishments like the universities of Nalanda etc. invaders like Gazni and Timur were known sadists that derived pleasure from great human suffering. Timur alone was responsible for executing a hundred thousand captives. The movie has no qualms in showing depravity of the antagonist in the film. The movie also sheds light on how religious thoughts can be used to promote political propaganda 3) It shows the weakness of our heroes - Legend tells that heroes like Bhishma Pitamah were unbeatable in a fair fight. Hence, Shikandi was used as a shield to obtain victory. The biggest failings of our heroes were their uncompromising belief on their moral code. A huge weakness that can be exploited if the enemy is willing to cheat. Something that is perfectly portrayed when our heroes are unwilling to harm children. Tools used to subdue them. 4) Realistic action - As a martial artist, I was amazed on how realistically the action is portrayed, From the sword fight to the use of chakram. The film doesn’t unnecessarily give our heroes superhuman abilities but show the actual rawness of hand to hand combat as the battle deteriorates from shooting to bayonet melees. It is a story of the last stand of martyrs and the movie does justice to their bravery. 5) Emotional touch - The film beautifully captures a soldier's attachment to their family and the love stories portrayed touch your heart. It could be the love of a soldier with its infant child or a son missing his mother or Akshay Kumar's commendable portrayal of Ishar Singh missing his wife. 6) heart touching music - I have to say I was scared going into the cinema as in the film promotions songs like “menu kendo” were heavily promoted. I wondered how I could see my heroes dancing to such vague tunes, yet the editors did a great job in editing out all unwanted music. Tracks like "Deh Shiva" by Sukwinder Singh and "Jasleen Royal, and Ek Onkaar by Jassi are sure to induce goosebumps. 7) It is an homage to our ancestors - Though the movie has a mammoth run time. I had fun and appreciated the characters of Ishar Singh and Gurumukh Singh. The most amazing thing being how true the director kept the story to historical events. From the politics at fort Lockhart and fort Gulistan to the battle cries of Shahid Gurumukh Singh as he was burnt alive in his signalling post are all facts that can be easily verified by anyone with a phone and internet. In the end if you know about the 300 Spartans last stand and not about the glory of 21 Sikhs, Kesari is a must watch. God bless Akshay Kumar with health, wealth and happiness so he may continue to be a raconteur of our rich history.

KESARI is based on the true story of one of the bravest battles that India ever fought – the Battle of Saragarhi. The year is 1897 and the British Empire having conquered most of India, is now trying to infiltrate Afghanistan. Fort Saragarhi, in the NWFP (North Western Frontier Province) is a small communication post used to relay messages between two major military forts - Gullistan and Lockhardt. To be posted at Saragarhi is no matter of pride for the newly formed Sikh regiment of the British Indian Army. Marked in color KESARI (Saffron), the Sikhs symbolize valor and pride and to die doing one's duty. Ishar Singh (Akshay Kumar), a proud warrior who prefers to live by his community rules, is often found in direct conflict with the orders of his British officers. As a punishment, Ishar is sent to Saragarhi where a bunch of 20 unruly, undisciplined Sikh soldiers await him. And it is this bunch of cheeky but lovable rouges that Ishar leads into the battle when an army of 10,000 Afghani Pathans turn up at Saragarhi on the 12th of Sept 1897. It is now 21 Sikhs vs 10,000 Afghans on the battlefield.

I was not going to watch Kesari but I felt I should. So the beginning of the movie was not so intimidating but as the movie progressed towards interval - the seriousness of the movie comes out amazing well and showcases as one of the best movies out there. Post interval scenes were more interesting and sad according to the storyline. I recommend it to everyone of any age to experience this amazing movie.

Awesome movie based on true story and the highlight of the movie is costume design. Set in the 1897 pre-independence period, Kesari focuses on three British-occupied forts that were originally built by Maharaja Ranjit Singh – Fort Saragarhi, Fort Gulistan and Fort Lockhart. Havildar Ishar Singh (Akshay Kumar) who is posted at Gulistan Fort gets transferred to Saragarhi Fort due to disobedience of orders from a superior British officer. When he reaches Saragarhi, he meets 20 Sikh soldiers who look or behave nothing like a soldier. Havildar Ishar Singh slowly understands them and molds them into being disciplined officers and considerate humans at the same time. A contentious region, the three forts soon become part of an Afghan plan of invasion. On the 12th of September, 1897, these invaders attack Saragarhi Fort, which is held by Ishar Singh. How the 21 courageous soldiers of the 36th Sikh Regiment fight these invaders who outnumber them drastically is what the film’s second half is all about.

Movie is not only high of action, but it is also high on content. I feel every Indian should watch this film. This movie will surely give you goosebumps plus fill your chest with pride and many of you will come out of cinema hall with numb eyes. If you like war dramas and patriotic films then this film is surely for you. But I am cutting one star as some elements are highly stretched in the film. You will definitely come to know when you watch the film.

Okay So I watched the movie yesterday. I don't know why this movie has so low ratings on google and other movie rating website. This movie is damn good and promotes the love of sikh army towards the land on which they live. This movies shows the respect of a sikhism toward its pagdi(pag) which directly shows their dedication and respect toward their one true lord. The war which took place in the movie started because the lead actor saved the life. of a girl which was about to get beheaded by a group of Afghanistan muslims. And due to involvement this sikh people, the muslims from afghanistan tried to invade the 3 castle which were build their. and then the 21 sikh army men decided to defend the castle which was attacked first until the help comes from the senior armymen! And they were succesfull in the task. The movie revolves around the life of an army men while serving for their land living away from the family.

Kesari," the word itself is precious, just like the spice. This movie truly embarks immense respect, honour and grace of the brave Sikh soldiers. The movie will make us proud, patriotic, anger, grief, sad, triumph and also laugh. It will give you a glimpse of how our soldiers were treated in 1897 (the late 19th century of the British rule in the once united India); it'll show you the brotherhood, respect for other religions, tolerance and mental strength of our soldiers, their bravery, self respect, love for the soil/mother land, their readiness to sacrifice themselves, the urge of freedom and the importance of choice. These brave 21 Sikh soldiers chose the best possible path to weaken and stall the enemies (around 10,000), this one way path had a motive with 'SACRIFICE' being the final destination, which they graciously accomplished. They stood until their hearts were beating and now they reside the beat of every Indian as a gesture of gratitude. All the actors have done a fantastic job and Akshay Kumar's performance is definitely worth an applause. Music blends with the screenplay, editing is clean and another best part about this movie is that it does not have any un-wanted romance. Our sincere respect to all our soldiers who selflessly stand strong to protect us. THANKYOU for being there for us. Vande Mataram,

It could have been one of the best nominated movies but the film downplays with strong melodrama using the current Indian tension of nationalist to benefit to draw audience. The story is epic, I had huge expectation from this film, but total disappointment. And it's not just Akshay kumar but other 20 men out who too got a sensible story which the movie completely throw off. There is no depth in the story, just pure over the top, beautiful scenic shot film. It could have been made more realistic, more genuine true story sense if not taken that many creativity liberty just to base the story on valor of sikh alone. Once again Bollywood industry proves its losing it's content and more just going with the flow of melodrama and money.

Great epic war movie. Reasonable use of computer graphics. No needless superhuman stunts. No pointless dance and song. Background music in war sequences a bit jarring and unnecessary. Filmmakers aiming to produce period dramas should take note and not end up delivering more rubbish such as Thugs of Hindostan, Mohenjo Daro. All the actors have acted very well. The movie is in the same class as Lagaan, Mangal Pandey.

The movie was just amazing to watch and was inspiring enough to make rise a feeling of patriotism in our hearts. A must watch movie. The actor Akshay Kumar did and awesome job of depicting the sikh's role and a soldier. The direction of the movie was great and the story line was awesome as it was a real story and battle.

The film is really awesome. The story line and plot both are fabulous. The direction of the film is mind blowing. Akshay Kumar in the lead role is just the cherry on top. The courage and bravery showed in the film will give you goosebumps. The film makes you encourage whole time while watching. I will suggest every Indian to watch this movie at least once.

This movie is about how the battle of Saragarhi was fought. Akshay Kumar shines in his role. Parneeti Chopra's role is short and unnecessary. The first half of the movie is talkative and lengthy but in the second half of movie fight scenes are good. Anurag Singh direction is good and the color of the movie is also different.Superb fight sequences with a very emotional ending.Must watch only in the theatre

Movie is well directed and akshay Kumar looks so well in the movie. Movie story revealed around the "saragadi" which was fought between 10000 afghanis and only 21 Sindhi fighters . The movie is capable to show the spirit and passion in the fighters and in the whole movie akshay Kumar creates a continuous passion in the fighters. Now talking about first half it's average or it looks little boring but the second half is full of energy and binds the audience. It's an movie which must be watched.

Battle of Saragarhi is one of the bravest battles ever fought - 21 Sikh soldiers against 10000 Afghan invaders. This movie shows you how that battle was fought and the main focus in this on obviously Akshay Kumar. The direction of Anurag Singh is good. This is a historical movie but some fiction elements are added to make the movie spicy. Everyone in the cast is good but the role of Parneeti Chopra is unnecessary.Focus on other soldiers is less due to Akshay Kumar stardom but irrespective this movie is impressive

Greatest battle ever fought and listed as number 2 of the bravest battle ever fought in the world. And the fact that Britishers recognize this events in their history and actually have memorial for the Sikh martyrs in England......says a lot about the bravery of Sikh soldiers. The movie I agree starts of slow but it's the second half where the movie is stupendous.....great cgi..... great action.....great acting loved it especially for 2nd half.

Kesari is based on the story of battle fought by the 21 Sikhs against 10000 invaders as written in the books and this movie brings that story a visual with amazing representation of that battle in this movie. All actors did their job pretty well....direction was also well done....just thought that visuals could be more better but they were pretty decent. A must watch movie.

Akshay Kumar starer movie Kesari is based on war fought in Saragari in 1897, where only 21 Sikh soldiers fought against 10000 Afgan. Main story of the movie starts from second half where the makerers focus on the war scenes. Action choreography is very well. If you talk about performance, then all actors were fine, from foreigner to attacking Afgans and Sikh soldiers, but in all this Akshay Kumar was shining differently. Akshay was the life of the film and he took all the responsibility on his shoulders. His acting was tremendous. Overall movie is excellent. You must watch it.

Movie is very watchable & Akshay Kumar's acting is great. The only downside is that movie feels a bit slow in the first half. Action scenes are well shot, you'll enjoy watching those. :) Actress Pareeniti Chopra did not had much of a role in the movie. Movie was good overall and it was well directed.
