To start with, LAXMII is nowhere close to the original Tamil film [KANCHANA], although one notices modifications in the narrative to cater to the Hindi audience. The problem with LAXMII lies in its weak screenwriting. It hinges on humour for most of its first half, but it doesn’t work. It is only towards the second hour — when Sharad Kelkar makes an entry — that the narrative gathers momentum. That point onwards, right till the finale, it gets better

The movie is a two-hour celebration of women’s empowerment. The narrative in the movie tackles issues like dependency (on man), gender bias, sex trafficking and violence against women. And despite the endearing vision, the message is rather muddied as the film goes on. Lakshmi (Lakshmi Manchu) fights her way against deep-rooted connections between crime and bureaucracy, and finally indicts a dangerous criminal Vaikuntam (Prabhakar) after he was caught trafficking women.

This movie is neither scary nor comedy. The story of transgender Laxmi is good but it does not go hand in hand with movie. Only good this from Akshay is his walk like a transgender. He failed miserably to doing comic scenes. Kaira has very small or no roll at all. Looks like her part is guest appearance. The best part about this movie performance by Sharad.

The main lead of the movie himself was too much into the character so much so that he went on doing overacting. Character roles were at least funny and did a decent job with their respective roles. Trying to project all the topics and problems of the society in just one single plot. Love jihad, trans gender issues, family drama, frauds of babas. The plot had so many stupid twists with no proper storyline. And clearly the director has issued with Hindu religion and beliefs but has all faith in Islamic Babas and their mantras.. As they were quite successful to control the Laxmi ghost. So evident that the movie is again trying to portray the Hindu temple as a welcome place to evil person and cannot let Laxmi ghost enter the premises.

Akshay posted a review for Laxmii (2020) in Movies
Produced by Fox Star Studios, Tushar Entertainment House, Shabinaa Entertainment, LAXMII BOMB is a remake of the Tamil Blockbuster “Kanchana” that set the cash registers overflowing across Tamil Nadu. The film is written and directed by Lawrence Raghavendra. While a few “PANdits” are still grappling with the last few useless reasons to pinpoint the success of the original, the decision of the director to remake this film in Bollywood further challenges these PANdits. Add to it the casting of Akshay Kumar, who inarguably is the biggest commercial hero of Bollywood to the mix, makes the cause even more deafening. Despite being adapted to suit the Bollywood audience the story of the film is as dumb as the original and the tailored screenplay reeks of audacious stupidity. It is not that Bollywood is numb to such dumb scripts; it has its own share of duffs with Akshay Kumar lording over a few. Lawrence adds to the menu by weaving a new genre “horror comedy” that has been done to death in Kollywood. Akhay Kumar looks jaded in this unconvincing script. Kiara Advani is OK on her own but her pairing with Akshay Kumar delivers a bland chemistry. The rest are as loud as the director wants them to be. Cinematographer Vetri adds lots of glitz and colour to the scenes. Amar Mohile’s back ground score is effective. Rajesh Pandey’s editing it taut. Dialogues are over the top while the direction is kitschy. LAXMII BOMB is a horror-comedy that has “horrific” comedy and “comical” horror.

One who doesn't believe in ghosts get the taste of it — a popular formula done before and not dusted yet. Yes, Laxmii cannot just be dusted off as it's the official Hindi remake of Tamil horror-comedy flick Kanchana. Akshay Kumar stepped into the shoes of Raghava Lawrence, who not only played the lead but also helmed the original film. When the trailer was dropped we got to see everything but not who the actual transgender was, the role originally played by R. Sarathkumar in Tamil film. The plot starts with Akshay Kumar and his wife Kiara Advani being called by her mother to pay a visit for the 25th wedding anniversary. Her parents' anniversary and Kiara's elder brother's role is played by Manu Rishi and wife Ashwini Kalsekar (Ummm... something to think about). Akshay plays the role of Asif, a Muslim guy who finds it hard to get accepted by Kiara's family. But that wasn't an important element at all. He comes, he conquers their hearts and gets possessed by a transgender's spirit in no time. It is a visual treat to watch Akshay turn into Laxmii as those were the most enjoyable moments of the film. His expressions, dialogue deliveries and the walk, show that he can go to any length to get into the skin of hisThe initial build-up of showing spookiness can be scary for a minuscule number of people who are not into horror movies at all. The film tries to become a comedy flick with over-the-top acting by the cast and not-so-funny one-liners. Well, Kanchana was also all about that! Raghava Lawrence forayed into Bollywood with his forte of horror-comedy but Kanchana is a decade-old formula. Bollywood redefined horror-comedy with Stree released in 2018 which set a high benchmark for the genre. The film's only X-factor is Akshay Kumar and watching him in a different space. The female lead Kiara Advani has nothing much to do but her cherubic look and subtle face bring calming moments in the film.

Rashmi (Kiara Advani) sees it as an opportunity to mend ties when her estranged mother invites her over for their 25th wedding anniversary. The woman, who has secretly been pining to reunite, takes her husband Asif (Akshay Kumar) along. Soon after, the family home is witness to strange occurrences and Asif is turning out to be someone he is not – a vengeful spirit, Laxmii.

This movie was a big mind-change.. The concept, the acting yeah the story didn't work too well in the starting but the issue raised was perfect. All the people commenting bad on this, shame on you once a while use your brains and see the concept, rather than searching for stupid love-stories , something copied by hollywood and made kinda inspiring..look into the problems in the society and if someone presents it have the guts to see it and try to adapt to the solutions by bringing a change in you, which the movie intends to provide, kick your milk bottle aside for awhile, and rather than crying stand up and act. The acting was really perfect. This movie changed the preceptive of me seeing towards the transgender community. They do deserve a good life like us.

Laxmii one of the worst remake of 2020. I had high hopes from this movie considering that the horror comedy genre is one where Bollywood is bit shy as there is a narrow margin of movie becoming hit or flop. Akshay Kumar could have done wonders in this role but he couldn't impress much, Sharad Kelkar what a impressive performance in Tanhaji couldn't repeat the success or the impressive performance of Sarathkumar. Raghava brought his own charm to Kanchana movie and he looked apt in Kanchna's role. There are remakes which are done perfectly like Ghajini and there is a half baked cake Laxmii.

The movie Laxmii released on Disney Hotstar is not what I expected from it . Though it was a copy of Kanchana movie but still there must be something to get entertain but this movie has just surpassed every point of a movie. It's just a story of a man who gets a ghost on his body but he didn't believed in ghost . It's good if you are bored .

Well the movie is a copy of South Indian movie 'Kanchana' but it was unable to create the hype and the love that the original movie did. It's very rare for a Bollywood actor to be in a role like Akshay Kumar did but it's all waste when we notice the plot. It shouldn't be in a Horror movie list because there is just comedy .

Who doesn't like to watch comedy horror movies! If there is another favorite hero, then there is no question. I sat down to watch this first movie of a new director named Raghava Lawrence. On the whole, it can be said to be good, but it would have been better if there was novelty without copying the story. Today's movie is a remake of the Tamil movie Kanchana released in 2011. Directed by - Raghava Lawrence Language - Hindi Cast - Akshyay Kumar, Kiara Advani, Tushar Kapoor, Sharad Kelkar and many more My Verdict : Story - 3.5/5 Characters - 4.2/5 Acting - 4.2/5 Directions - 3.8/5

The original itself was a bad movie but entertaining in parts. This Akshay Kumar starrer is a complete replica of "Kanchana". The only difference they managed to make is bringing in the "Hindu-Muslim" angle. Rest everything is the same. The IQ of this movie is directly proportional to the IQ of Twinkle Khanna. Detailed movie is not at all required here I guess as I mentioned earlier this movie is exact replica of Kanchana. The same overacting. Similar screenplay.

Fleming posted a review for Laxmii (2020) in Movies
He is a self-proclaimed ‘hard-core lover’ and there are very few things in life Asif wouldn’t do for his spouse of three years. It is this very reason that prompts him to pack his bags and rush off to Daman to patch things up between Rashmi and her family, and maybe procure a place in their hearts for him, too.“He runs granite and marbles business and is a senior member at the Jagoo Aavam committee; they are fighting the superstitious beliefs surrounding ghosts and spirits,” declares Rashmi – proudly – when quizzed about her husband’s profession. So when the neighbourhood kids refuse to play at the adjacent ground because an evil spirit dwells there, Asif, quite expectedly, brushes it off and pledges to play a full IPL game on that abandoned land. Soil nailing, very dramatically, changes the Earth above and beneath – dark, ferocious clouds looming around at an alarming pace, while dried autumn leaves caress the faces. The witch sleeping underneath that piece of turf has been shaken awake, and now, she must follow the culprit home: Asif. Too dramatic? So is the plot of this film, read on. When the spirit does make her way into that home, it’s complete mayhem and madness. Who is it? What does she want? And why is Asif having a little escapade of his own with sarees and bangles? Questions aplenty, answers lie in ‘Laxmii’ – literally and figuratively. What makes or breaks a comedy are its one-liners, the actors’ timing and the relevance of the jokes and where they land. Unfortunately, Akshay Kumar-Kiara Advani starrer ’Laxmii’ has none. The project is ambitious and has cherry-picked an interesting angle to inculcate into the narrative – of the ghost being a transgender with unfinished business – but the execution is over the top and melodramatic even by comedy standards. The first half is laden with random bickering among characters that are flat-out pointless. Masala movie-making man Farhad Samji’s adaptive screenplay has many a loophole and there are inconsistencies that would be criminal to look past. Case in point: If Kiara’s parents are celebrating their 25th anniversary and her character has eloped three years back, how is an evidently much older Deepak (Manu Rishi Chadha) her elder brother? Samji tries hard to hit the bull’s eye with this one by conjuring up chaos at peak moments, but with a cattle farmer being referred to as ‘Hi, cow man! Andar aao,’ there wasn’t much hope whatsoever. Was there? Akshay Kumar’s quite the charmer as a staunch atheist and then a man grappling with demonic possession, but then again, when is he not? And Kiara Advani balances his act out with her sensible demeanour and that pretty smile. Rajesh Sharma as Papa is a henpecked husband trying to convince everyone – and himself really – that he is in charge of his life. But with a tanker of a wife (Ayesha Raza Mishra) and a jagrata-crazed son, Deepak (Manu Rishi Chadha), Sharma portrays the role of an inactive player in denial with comfort. Ayesha Raza Mishra and Ashwini Kalsekar’s Ashwini do all the screaming and hollering; not a single scene squeezes even a mild grin out of the viewers; if that was the intent at all. Raghava Lawrence’s direction feels like an effort to overcompensate for the lack of clarity and humour in its plot; the discomfort and need to polish up is visible and quite obvious. The music rendered by Tanishk Bagchi, Anup Kumar and Shashi-Khushi, though dropped at random intervals, is hummable. Peppy tunes like ‘Burjkhalifa’ and ‘BamBholle’ resonate for their quirkiness (good quirk, that is!). However, the same cannot be said about Amar Mohile’s background score – tepid and misplaced. ‘Laxmii’ sets out to be a satire against age-old beliefs and biases – we get it! – but the insipidness of the narrative and whatever follows thereon, butchers the lessons it originally desires to impart. Looking back, the reiterating catchphrase happens to be ‘Maine kuch nahin dekha… yahaan koi nahin hain’ and that’s the vibe we’re latching on to at the moment.

Life posted a review for Laxmii (2020) in Movies
“The day I see a real ghost... I swear I’ll wear bangles,” says our hero Aasif! Why? Because bangles equal to women which equal to the “weaker sex”, which equals to I don’t know what. Yes, this is what Bollywood is dishing out in 2020 while all of us IRL are celebrating women and the breaking of the glass ceiling as Kamala Harris is set to be the first elected woman Vice President of the USA. However, for mainstream Bollywood, wearing bangles is still something to be ashamed of. Anyway, if we set out to take offence then Laxmii will leave us all fuming. It’s best therefore for our own sanity and for the sake of Akshay Kumar to pretend like this film never happened. Directed by Raghava Lawrence, the plot of this 2 hour 20 minute mind-numbing film is one long eye roll. From peddling the same stale stereotypes about the transgender community that are outright offensive, to dumb writing that ensures no jokes land, it is an excruciating watch as we try and process why this film was made in the first place. Laxmii manages to take everything good and turn it into a stinking pile of mediocrity. Seasoned actors like Rajesh Sharma , Manu Rishi Chadha, Ayesha Raza and Ashwini Kalsekar are reduced to pitiable cartoonish buffoons. Akshay Kumar, who can be extremely enjoyable to watch in his irreverent avatars is a loud, cringeworthy embarrassment. Also, Kiara Advani is as out of place in the entire film as the neck sprain-inducing choreography of the song Burj Khalifa... relegated her to. Sharad Kelkar inexplicably manages to hold his own and shows that it’s possible to play a transgender with dignity and grace, but this isn’t a film where anything with dignity is allowed to survive and so Kelkar is quickly gotten rid of. Even judging by the Bollywood standard of “brainless comedies” Laxmii falls short miserably. Neither funny nor inspiring and a horror in the most literal sense, it makes mockery of the very things it claims to be celebrating. A hero with a scientific temperament comfortable with his misogyny and a film where transgender characters have to carry the burden of nauseating stereotypes. Give us a break Bollywood, the year isn’t over but it’s safe to say that Laxmii is the worst film of 2020.
