If you had apprehension about a brand new film being called by an old name, made by the same director, you were right. If you thought that despite this apparent lack of imagination, this 2.0 love aaj kal would fry, you were wrong. Imtiaz Ali's latest version of romance in this day and that age, is nothing but a incoherent mess.
The last time I saw the messy feelings of pain pleasure exhilaration, feelings that touch you and move you, that radiate from true lovers, was in Ali's most well realised movie, Jab We Met, and before, in his lovely, underrated socha na tha. He hasn't managed to capture those emotions since, not in Rockstar, nor in Tamasha, and certainly not in the misfire that was Jab Harry Met Sajel.
The film ends with a song the usual medley of the cast dancing as the credit rolls, and there it is, the film. Such liveliness, and Zest: if only the whole film had the same feel. I came away with a feeling of being comprehensively let down: where had the craft gone, and where, indeed, the heart?

Kartik Aaryan has done some really good acting when it came to displaying really complex emotions while Sara Ali Khan's acting which was equally good but the screenplay and the timing of her display of emotions was bad which also talks about bad editing. The screenplay and direction actually will ruin the story for you.

This movie is so full of true love and emotions so i personally liked it.. And the main thing is that we can almost relate to all our Bachpan ka love and Abhi ka love...The story they are narrating is clear enough and it directly reached to me.. And as always sartik is love and I'm really thankful they did not disappoint me at all at any scenario.. I really hope this movie doesn't go underrated because imtiaz has given one more beautiful love story to Bollywood which is very rare nowadays

Reason people are not liking this movie because the movie does not directly gives its message. The audience has to ponder hard about all the messages. this concept is not as such famous in India that is the reason Indian audience is unable to accept it. love aaj kal 2 is one of the unique concept which is still beyond the thinking of Indian audience .Indian audience is generally used to the movies which give them direct messages. I really hope that Indians should start exploring more not ,stick to simply one concept.

Love Aaj Kal2 is narrating the story of pair of lovers of 90s and 2020- an apt offering for the Valentine Day as one may guess. The love here is of Imtiaz Ali brand -confused, uneven ups / downs and all accompanied by some soulful music. This one is presented in a non- linear form going back and forth in time with unnerving frequency. Not many born in last century are likely to assimilate the complexities fully. Hence the film appears disoriented and purposeless often. Kartik Aryan essays a double role, with the older one looks more convincing. Sara Ali Khan has an imposing screen presence as proven in her previous films also.

Love, as it is said, has many splendor things and Imtiaz Ali has explored and impressed the audience before But this movie, sadly disappoints One story is of Raghu and Leena's, in the late 80s and early 90s time, which genuinely has romance, school life, friends and interfering parents. The another is of Veer and Zoe's. This love story blossoms in a co working space owned by Raghu Pyar ho gaya, bed pe pahuch gaye, break up ho gaya....but there is no setting in the movement of the story, to make things worse, added with out of the place dialogues Zoe is influenced by Raghu's story Or her mom's constant warnings Or her boyfriend's behaviour Or her own mental thought process.......kuch bhi barabar nahin bataya......but still the end is predictably simple Kartik Aryan looks and behaves like a serial killer at times or a mentally retarded person at times The script didnt demand such a role.....kya hua bhai?? Sara Ali Khan is okay with her acting and nice variety of attractive clothes she wears......a good fashion tip for females Randeep Hooda could not bring in that intensity in his narration, which constantly runs parallel with the main story Arushi Sharma's debut did not go in an impressive way In Bollywood generally we see romantic films where the storyline has either 1. One rich one poor 2. Caste issues 3. Old family enemity 4. A love triangle But Imtiaz is known for making love stories having much more complexities and showing actually what is the mental state of the two lovers involved in this period of loving someone and he was just brilliant in Socha Na Tha and Jab We Met. Then his previous one Tamasha could have shaped up well, but the story was not executed properly Here, this movie the presentation was haywire, otherwise it would have atleast been okay types Sir.......unlike routine rom com masala films, in your types movies, execution and presentation cannot be compromised We audience are used to feel a sense of attachment with the lead characters in your movies......some where we start thinking.......arey yaar, ye toh meri life story jaisa hi hai, per idhar woh feel nahin aa raha hai I am emphasizing so much on Imtiaz Ali, coz just want him to return back again as the director we like him, in his next project Avoid this one guys Out of other options.....if not seen then Jawaani Jaaneman is good Malang (A) is okay, but heavy

Yes don't trust the bad reviews... The movie is great! Infact it's really good!! Especially the old school romance! The entire past sequence will really take you away from all your present problems and you will fall in love with the entire sequence! The meetings, the train sequence! The line : " tum jitne khud ke bhi nahi ho utne mere ho raghu " and Randeep Hooda though played a short role has my heart! No one could do his role better than him!! Totally in love with Randeep Hooda. Kartik did an amazing job! The movie has a special essence a surreal feeling which people need to spend time and search in the movie! If u understand that special feeling of the movie you will definitely love the movie! It's not a normal love story neither does the movie focus on Kartik and Saras chemistry but focuses on the realities of a relationship people face ! Fact of life is I don't understand why are people continuously comparing it with the earlier Love Aaj Kal! I know that it's a similar concept but it's a story on love of today's and 90s. For eg : A teenager will not understand the earlier Love Aaj kal but will probably more relate to this one. Thus I feel it should be seen as an individual film! Apart from that Imtiaz Ali films always have great music and Shayad has my heart, the songs are definitely amazing!! Also debutant Arushi Sharma did a superb job!! She is amazing at her work and too pretty! She does everything very effortlessly I mean please tell me which modern day actress would slay in a plait and still look pretty enough to fall in love with!! Love Aaj Kal is really nice , please watch it and do not get confused by the bad reviews!

Imtiaz Ali's vision might be tough for few to understand and understandably they wont like or get it. But those who gets the depth of each sequence what he is trying to portray on screen will always will return happily after watching movie. Coming to this movie, from my point of view it is one of Imtiaz's best work . Saif is outstanding and his best work after omkara without any doubt. Deepika was also great. Music was faboulous. But the real star is script and Imtiaz. His way of depicting human emotion in this movie is amazing (for instance harleen drinking black tea at midnight interval shot and many more). If you feel emotion & love deeply , you will not be disappointed !!! 10 Years down the line , still watch it time to time to reignite the understanding of real love and reminiscing my college days when watched it for 1st time and being in love

It narrates two different stories - one from the 90's and other one from 2020. While in the old one boy leaves everything and everyone for his love(not practical at all) but ultimately life takes his usual course and its too late before he finally realized what he has lost. On the hand is a young and dynamic career focused girl who wants to focus on her career only.. being practical but yes life as we say it takes the usually ups and downs and leaves her in a situation where she needs to decide between her career and love. The connection between both these stories have been so beautifully crafted. After watching this movie twice and living every moment of it I recommend you to watch it atleast once with no explanation and I am sure you will love it. Also, the quote which Randeep Huda says - "jo mein hu aur jo mein ban gaya hu wo dono alag alag log hai" migh strike some different kind of chores in your heart.

The screenplay by Imtiaz flows like water here, effortlessly tying the dots between present and past, interweaving these extremely flawed and layered love stories. Both the love stories had one thing in common: they had their own definition of love. While one explores finding of oneself in another, the other one yearns for the purity of combined consciousness. The true beauty of Love Aajkal 2 to me, lies in the optimism of the writer, despite writing his most unlikable characters , like ever. Unlike his old attempt (Love Aajkal 1) at defining what love is to people today compared to the past, Imtiaz soaks the present (aaj) story with organically realized characters. The present no longer has been described to be modern for the sake it. Rather, Imtiaz romanticizes the new age love as a more sophisticated definition of love.

The movie is a decent watch if one prefers emotional dramas, but is pretty much average for a generic movie watcher. The movie explores the dynamics of a relationship on how it gets influenced by a person's family, society and career prospects. The name truly reflects the situation in today's world where women in our patriarchal society oppressed or restricted in their economic stature try to move out of the general zone. The issues they face have been depicted though they lack substantial depth. The character of Kartik Aaryan is very superficial whereas that of Sara is decent. Randeep Hooda and Aarushi Sharma have done a nice job. The music is also okayish.

This is one of Imtiyaz's best. He is comfortable in telling these kind of stories very well. The complexity of love is portrayed in the film, which I found to be beautiful. And the album is as always (in an Imtiyaz Ali film) great. Sara was very much average, but Kartik Aaryan and Randeep Hooda were the life of the film. This is by far, Kartik's best performance .

Love Aaj kal is a lovely movie.. about a conflict between heart and mind, what we really want vs what we want to become, love and career, its balance and how other people in our lives impact our life our choices.. a beautifully depicted one.. a movie like Socha Na Tha, RHTDM, Barfi, a different one. Loved it. Sara and Kartik are my fav and Randeep always wins one’s heart by his character portrayal.

I personally felt the movie was superb and heart touching. I am a big fan of Imtiaz Ali and this time due to bad reviews I was about to skip to watch this movie. But fortunately just for the sake of it, I went to watch the movie and I can happily say Imitaz Ali has again made a master piece. Ya quiet true that Sara Ali Khan should have done a better acting but she was not at all poor. Imtiaz is a good director and writer as well as a good thinker, he makes what he imagines, film was very colorful, and every scene of this film was lovely.

To be very honest the movie is not that bad as the people and the critics have portrayed it to be. Yes, I do agree with the fact that some scenes could've been avoided but overall the movie does have a great story. The characters are new, raw and real especially Kartik Aaryan as Veer, who has delivered his career best performance in my opinion. Sara Ali Khan is convincing too. Randeep Hooda binds the story well and there are a lot of lessons to take because Imitiaz Ali has presented the right and the wrong both, for the audience to learn from. It all comes down to your perception of things.

This might be an unpopular opinion, but, I liked the movie quite a bit. Infact, after hearing all those negative reviews and having no expectations whatsoever, I thought the movie was great. Keeping aside some weird acting (I don't necessarily mean bad) from Sara & Aryan and lack of any hard-hitting catchy songs, the movie was surprisingly engaging & original. The Love Aaj Kal theme was beautifully woven together with all those parallel flashback storytelling style and the shear realistic emotional moments were all really deep and even gut-wrenching at times. Despite being a complicated yet grounded reflection at the relationships, the movie never felt messy or boring. All thanks to the brilliant direction from Imtiaz.

Imtiaz Ali movies are always interesting to watch as he has an unique & artistic way of telling a love story of flawed characters. His stories always transcend the time. I believe they are always ahead of the time when compared to the audience of the actual release dates. Meaning, not every one understands or enjoys the deeper context of his stories, the conflicts and struggle of his characters who have to bear through multiple subliminal emotions throughout the movie.

Deep posted a review for Love Aaj Kal in Movies
LOVE AAJ KAL begins on a fine note as the characters of both eras get established. Yes, things do seem a bit off especially some dialogues and Veer's behaviour and his body language. However the 90s track has a charm and keeps the interest going. One of the best scenes here is when Raghu and Leena have a romantic moment in the train. The twist in Raghu's tale comes as a bolt from the blue. This bit particularly works because till now, it looks like a clone of Rishi Kapoor's track from the old LOVE AAJ KAL. As a result, audience won’t see it coming. Trouble however starts from the interval point. Zoe's outburst is weird. Post interval, the film does pick up when Veer comes to pick up Zoe. Also, the culmination of Raghu's story is poignant. However, Zoe’s actions take the film down. The final scene is just okay On the whole, LOVE AAJ KAL is strictly for the youth and romantic at heart. At the box office, it will start on a positive note on the account of its novel cast and the festive (Valentine’s Day) period. The business will be decent across urban multiplexes while business at single screens may remain average.

Its a mind blowing film. You might find the plot difficult to follow but its imtiaz ali's film and the message is never really delivered directly. Randeep hooda was a great save for this movie. Great dialouges. Music is very rejunavating and very refreshing. Acting of both sarah ali khan and kartik aryan was average although sarah ali khan's acting for her first debut film was above average. No doubt love aaj kal 1 was far better but a must watch.

There were huge expectations from Karthik Aryan as recently he established himself as bankable actor. This movie genre did not match with his previous movies. There was no comedy, no monologue for Karthik. That's why no great performance by Karthik. He needs to learn acting for serious cinema. Sara Ali Khan was trying to do acting but we will call it OVER acting. Her character needs some variation but she acted just opposite. Aarushi Sharma acted better than lead star cast. Randeep Hooda gave another brilliant performance in supporting role.

What I've liked in this movie is how much it relates to our love stories in the real life. It didn't present a dream love story. The struggle between love emotions and professional dreams in the girl's mind, was great and realistic. She fought many times for her thoughts, even after her heart led her to her lover, but she learned more how to equal between the two things. I prefer this story to any usual romantic story in the Hollywood movies.

This movie brought the old Imitiaz Ali to me, who I thought was lost in the pressure of commercialism. This love story absolutely depicts the love stories appropriate to their time. The loss, the grief, the butterflies in the stomach, the desperation, the despair, the repentance, the repercussions- all has been honestly depicted. Less marks for the delivery by the new age actors but I think they did their best and have lot to learn. Music could have been better, specially after comeback And Sara looked amazingly cute.

An average movie where the protagonist is confused how to take her life forward and relies on other experiences to choose her personal life. Sara ali khan fails to make a impact through it does look like she put in genuine effort but certain roles are just tailor made for certain actress. Kartik aryan was good as usual but his look at certain places esp with bearded could have looked more natural. Randeep huda is always a treat to watch. Overall one time watch movies. Do not expect anything extraordinary from this fim like previous part.

“What you seek is seeking you.” This is a quote of the famous philosopher and poet, Rumi. The story’s crux is that much only. Being an admirer of Imtiaz Ali’s work was the main attraction for me to get pulled by this movie. Nevertheless...my expectations were not very high and I am glad that I was correct to the core. The movie includes well-recognised faces who are yet to win hearts by their mediocre performance. Sara Ali Khan has to learn a lot from her parents about the minute details of performing a role. There were many places where I could only see her teeth (sorry for being rude!!) performing the scene. Kartik Aryan was definitely underused in this one. The new girl who played Leena justifies her role as per the time period shown. But...a huge relief to the eyes was Randeep Hooda. He pulled it out so naturally that at times I felt that he should be the main protagonist instead of playing “Uncle Sam” to those kids!! My ratings are just because of Randeep!

It was a great film. Most people still crave for that love they grew up believing in. While most people have abandoned the idea of true love thanks to commitment phobic generation. It seems cool to have flings and not discuss marriage or real love, people think going with the flow is a smart thing to do. Practicality is worshipped in today's day and age. In all this chaos, there is a guy who still wants the love story that doesn't lose its charm even after years of being together. That guy is Kartik's character. That guy is most of us. You must be a fool to believe that you don't want true love. Come on! we all do. But the fear of not getting what you want is bigger than what you really want, and that is where we all go wrong, that is why we hide behind meaningless flings, also sex is bigger than love for most of us today. Looking at Kartik's character, I felt something, I felt his deep desire, I felt his fear, and I felt his courage to go after what he wants despite the fear. And that's why I liked this film a lot. This is what love aaj kal was for me. 4 stars because Sara's acting went a little over in some places, but she has a lot of scope, I could see that. She will boom.

Imtiaz Ali has directed this film. The film stars Kartik Aaryan, Sara Ali Khan, Randeep Hooda, and others. In this story, the heroine does not like long-term relationships, she jokingly wants to conquer life and insists on making a career. Writer-director Imtiaz Ali wanted to show the new story to the audience in the same old story frame. Unfortunately, the public is not stupid enough to take the same thing over and over again. Yeah, I'm just saying the story didn't quite suit me, neither did there be any dialogue or any kind of music mood. Although Pritam's song was. As film it is not up to the mark. But, It will leave you with a lot of emotions. Might change how you look at love in the times we are, Might sweetly alter the story you are in and might make you take a leap of faith in your relationship. Interestingly, Imtiaz didn't use the word love even in once in Love aaj kal. The way he feels about it is so complex that it reflects in his writing as well as the closures he bring the character to. There is no eternal. And coming to acting Sara's acting was not bad either though she definitely has room for improvement and karthik though. Finally, Aaj hai Jo hai.

The movie is about the difficulties of daily lives and yet the quest to find and sustain true love. The stories of both the eras are portrayed so well and you never once feel like it's the same actor playing the male lead from both the stories. Imtiaz Ali direction is magic. The movie is certainly not as deep as the movie released a decade ago with same name but certainly has its moments.

Ranjith posted a review for Love Aaj Kal in Movies
To be fair, I’m still not entirely sure whether Zoe is the worst character written or if she is actually played by the worst actor possible, given that Love Aaj Kal’s insipidness is singlehandedly worsened by Sara Ali Khan’s grating over-emoting. The actress has the subtlety of Ranveer Singh’s wardrobe and the emotional depth of an Ekta Kapoor vamp. Aaryan fares slightly better in the flashback track (a dance sequence is probably the only rewarding part of the film) where the actor is less self-conscious than usual although, that has a lot to do with the fact that Khan goes out of her way to give a traumatising performance. Yet for a film that wants to throw a light on the peculiarities of modern dating, Ali’s ideas on relationships are unbearably orthodox. There’s an almost prudish gaze at casual sex, par for the course for the generation he claims to represent, and the idea of the “one” is still romanticised to the hilt. Both Zoe and Leena are devoted to a fault and tend to their men at a moment’s notice. If Leena claims that she can never doubt Raghu because he left his home for her, then Zoe suddenly turns into a concerned nurse the moment she spots Veer with a bruise on his head. Ali isn’t the first director who mistakes surface-level feistiness as female independence but there’s something about how he chooses to depict the transformation of romance that reeks of tired cliches. Naturally, Leena and Raghu are shown to be shy about getting physical while courting each other in 1990 but Zoe and Veer makeout on their first meeting in 2020. Using the readiness toward physical intimacy to argue a shift in the generational outlook toward romance is as effective as random surveys that claim that they can fix your love life. With ample throwbacks to his own filmography and a dictionary of dating that thinks it has all the answers while saying nothing at all, Love Aaj Kal resembles Imtiaz Ali’s directorial voice at the moment: a relic of the past that holds no clue about the future.

There’s the thinnest of lines between self-tribute and self-parody. Director Imtiaz Ali has finally crossed it with the new Love Aaj Kal.For years, the filmmaker has knocked us over the head with themes of self-actualization and true love how the two interlink in the context of a modern relationship. He doles out a similar existential waffle in this one but forgets to add his signature chocolate sauce and cream. The result, I’m afraid, is neither sweet nor savoury, and can cause a severe toothache. The film borrows the template of his 2009 romantic hit. Not the biggest of landmarks, the original Love Aaj Kal had its moments. It flip-flopped between timelines to tell a simple, coherent, engaging story. The narrative about professional high-flyers weighed down by personal wreck was turbulent but not overwrought, tenderly drawn by the sprightly duo of Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone.

Love Aaj Kal has an interesting story to tell and is based on aspects which are very relatable in today's times. Also, it follows the old template of a young lover discussing and debating with a person from the older generation about the matters of heart and learning a lesson or two in the process. This track has some fine moments as it's unpredictable after a point. But the present-day love story is quite difficult to digest. A few scenes don't make sense overall and some questions remain unanswered. And the biggest problem with the film is the character of Zoe, played by Sara Ali Khan. She follows her director's vision to the T but gets letdown by the script. Her actions and behavior fail to impress and you just don't root for her because of the kind of things she does. Kartik Aaryan is decent and gets to do something different, as compared to what he has done in the past. In some scenes he looks unrecognizable. Randeep Hooda is dependable as always while Arushi Sharma and Simone Singh are fine. Music, too, isn't that memorable. All in all, Love Aaj Kal is a dissapointment, to put it simply!

Disapointed that love has been portrayed as an either or element which wins over career even after a heavy dialogue about work being like an all consuming boyfriend.. Phew Sauve Randeep Hooda in whites & Jeans, groomed beard & mush with a twist as Raghu the cafe owner retells his tale of love of the 90s. Karthik Aryan as the younger Raghu with Arushi Sharma as Leena, who is vague & defunct of emotion. Love in the 90s needn't have been portrayed like from the black white movie era cold drama, typical rumours in the neighbourhood & parents relocating the girl.. Sigh Someone forgot to define Karthik Aryans role as Veer, they forgot to decide if he is a little challenged or just overly hyper sensitive and then promptly forgot that they hadn't decided hence let him be normal. Though Karthik occupies a large part of the story covering two roles, he doesn't impress with either even though he spouts Rumi & few one liners from social media forwards. He wants full on love while all he needed was a big boink on his head to take what he gets. Aha.. Zoe, Sara has taken on the fiesty role of a career girl well & portrayed what most youngsters do when not working.. dress up & look to hook up. Someone once again forgot to check the statistics of women who love & work, that they manage to do both successfully without needing to be a drama queen & sacrifice one for the other. Couple of songs remixed from the earlier movie & the grafittied boho cafe give respite. Needless to say Imtiaz Ali will need a hit soon if he wants to regain his image. Also.. If a story was being retold, it should have been Meera & Jais story from 2009 along with the mash up of the newer bachhas.

It's a toruture of 2 hours 20 minutes.Worst storyline, Same concept as first one. First love aaj kal was far more better than this. Weak storyline, Poor Screenplay, Bad Acting, average music. Kartik's acting is too bad to handle. Sara Ali Khan is worst in her emotional scenes. Average acting of sara. Only Randeep Hudda's acting is watching. Guys please don't waste your money. It is a total waste of money. Please don't go

Same old stupid romcom with pointless story and acting was just pathetic. Everything looks so artificial - don't know how director made this film with no script. Songs are almost remakes and dialogues are just below the belt. Pointless sequels root for disasters and this one is one of them.
