I'm an enormous Mortal Kombat fan and I was sitting tight for this film for quite a long time. This film is acceptable yet it has opportunity to get better. The plot discloses to us the reason of the story and the characters are elegantly composed and they respond suitably to their environmental factors and every one of the unusual things that they experience in their manner. The exhibitions are marvelous. In this film, the primary feature separated from the blood is the inconceivable presentation of the entertainers. Josh Lawson's Kano is a show stealer and makes the crowd grin at whatever point he is on screen. His comedic timing is exact and doesn't feel constrained. Freezing played by Joe Talsim is likewise tremendous. He is so threatening and Joe Talsim's presentation simply makes the film experience such a ton better. Scorpion is definitely my #1 MK character ever and Hiroyuki Sanada as the vindictive apparition is simply awesome. Hiroyuki Sanada's fiery and amazing exhibition raises the character to an unheard of level. Notwithstanding being just 1 hour 40 minutes in length the film doesn't feel surged and the choice to make the film R-evaluated was the correct call. The violence, the fierceness, the feelings all made the crowd genuinely associated with the characters. The film likewise has numerous easter eggs just no-nonsense devotees of the game can see including the exemplary Fatalities of notorious characters. Generally I cherished this film and I suggest you watch it. Can hardly wait for the continuation
The movie starts with a strong, emotional entrance and a great fight scene. A rivalry between two clans grabs your attention. Following this, there is no substance. The middle (from about 30 minutes to 20 minutes before the end) is full of nonsense and quick interchanging fight scenes where it's impossible to focus on the action. The best costumes are those of Sub-Zero and Scorpion - The latter may make a brief appearance. Raiden is Asian with black hair, Goro still looks like a puppet and lives in Coles garage, and Shang Tsung looks like a character from Rui Paul. A massive missed opportunity for a gripping story, where the limited epic scenes were released as part of trailers or sneak peak previews. What you didn't see before release, you wouldn't have paid to see upon.
Their was amazing action, acting, and the story was great but the story felt a bit rushed, somewhat crammed and i feel like it wasn't completely edited but i thought it was a great action movie, it fit the iconic video game so perfectly. So with that being said, i hope to see a great Mortal Kombat movie series within the next 10 years.
Possibly the best video game movie ever but that goes to Detective Pikachu. The story managed to both make me feel satisfied as a MK fan with the lore and references all there and make it super digestible for casual moviegoers to understand. Cole Young is a relatable and interesting character I'd like to discover more about and follow more in the sequels and believe the hate is unwarranted for him as he helps casuals and gives us an inspiring protagonist in the end. Many other characters are even better than Cole with Scorpion, Kano, Sub-Zero, Jax, Sonya and Shang Tsung and Raiden among them. The special effects are possibly the best part of the film but there is also the music, the remix of the original theme done SO well AND the easy-to-follow and interesting exciting writing of a journey of fighters all discovering their greatest strengths. Sets a new standard for video game movies to come and it will only get better. Truly great movie, for me. But objectively for the majority, has its flaws but overall pretty good and a fun-time, which is understandable and good enough. MORTAL KOMBAT!!!
This is literally how you do a video game franchise justice. I knew this movie would be amazing judging from the trailers and I was amazed by everything! Mortal Kombat is one of my favorite franchises in existence and I'm very surprised at how good this movie is. Hiroyuki Sanada IS Scorpion, hands down! A fantastic adaptation of the games with a decent story, great cinematography, good, yet noticeable CGI, amazing voice acting, a great soundtrack, and good editing.
Mortal Kombat begins in 17th Century Japan where Hanzo Hasashi (Hiroyuki Sanada) and his family are slaughtered to death by Bi Han/Sub Zero (Joe Taslim). As fate would have it, Hasashi’s child survives the carnage and is taken into safe custody by Lord Raiden (Tadanobu Asano). Fast forward to the present day and we see Cole Young (Lewis Tan), the protagonist and a descendant of Hasashi’s; Cole is a mixed martial artist past his prime, and he has the dragon mark on his body (the game’s logo) but he thinks it is a birthmark and doesn’t realise its potential until one day Sub Zero returns to Earth realm to eliminate the remaining champions ahead of the next Mortal Kombat tournament. The story has certain gaps but no-doubt it is beautifully portrayed movie from best video game.
Great movie, definitely lived up to its reputation. The action, fight scenes and story line was awesome. I don't think Cole is going to be a big character in the franchise, so I think the sequel should have less attention on Cole and focus on what the audience wants and that's their mortal kombat characters come to life on the big screen. Otherwise the movie was great and I enjoyed every second of it. The Tournament is about to begin. Well done to all the people who made this movie and well done to all the actors for their brilliance on the big screen.
This movie is edited so weirdly and the story is stupid. Cole is the dumbest character they added on to this movie. Kano is probably the best part. This movie is so dumb when they try to explain the dragon tattoos and how they get their powers from it. The movie had so many bad edits in it that had me shaking my head wondering what the hell was going on. Don't recommend it. Watch Scorpion Revenge or the Original Mortal Kombat Movie if you want a fun experience. Heck just play the video games.
I am a big fan of this franchise since my childhood. Watched and played the game and movie as well in childhood. The movie was fantastic great story telling , great action . Was hooked to the movie from the start . Warner bros did a great job with this movie . Awesome characters in this movie. Specially loved subzero and scorpion. They also set up the movie for sequels hopefully guys we get a sequel soon .

Great action and fight choreography as was to be expected from a movie with this title, special effects regarding characters and their abilities were also very well done especially considering the budget constraints this movie had. Storyline was predictable from the beginning and the writing itself isn't gonna win any awards, characters say their catchphrases from the games in key moments of the film, however, one big surprise for me was the character of Kano. He was the biggest and funniest comic relief character in the whole movie, constantly throwing jokes and insults at other characters. Probably one of the funniest, self aware movie characters I've seen in a long time. There are also weird editing jumps in the movie, one moment you're looking at characters interacting and in the next you're looking at something completely different. The movie suffers from a few of these, but given this is the directors first foray into the world of movie making, I'll take that L, most of the other important things were handled with care, If you know what you're getting and your expectations are right, this movie isn't gonna let you down with violence and gore, if you're expecting more then it's gonna be a letdown.
I believe I was 12 years old when the first Mortal Kombat came out at the arcades, I would stand in lines meticulously destroying my competition. Watching this movie brought back memories that I hadn't thought about since I was young . To make this short, The nostalgia was perfect, they had all the old champions with a few new mixed in..The beginning was awesome, I really thought it was going to be a different Mortal Kombat movie, However, the beginning is the only drama you see after that its all fights. WHICH WERE AWESOME, but for people looking to see some sort of drama or decent script writing it falls very short.
I see alot of other reviews saying that there wasn't a need for Cole and this and that. But I thought I was fantastic! I've been a fan of MK since the release of the 1st game. And everything done up to this point has been sub par to say the least. This movie, while yes having some cheese here and there and a couple plot holes and could've done this or that, I feel was a great story and very well executed. And for the addition of Cole. MK has introduced new characters all the time!. So why not introduce a new one? Especially one that helps tell the story and explain how this or that happens? Haha. All in all. I love it! Above and beyond better than the 1st 2 live action MK movies!!
Mortal kombat 2021 is an enjoyable yet a good film. The character development is a bit rushed but overall pacing is great. It would be a visual treat for mortal kombat fans. The inspiration behind every scene and costume is based on the game. This is by far the best adaptation of the game since it was first released. Classic fight sequences, well balanced focus on back stories and focus on plot at hand. One of the most divisive parts of the movie is contrast between kano and cole. cole is the new character in the movie. Bottom line : This is definitely made for the fans of Mortal Kombat!!
