Wow, you'd think this would be just the typical movie but as soon as it started, I was so into it. Sonic looked cute unlike the other ugly one. There was just a lot of humour and good Easter eggs that were noticable. I could tell they were really doing their research. Jim Carry was perfect as Dr. Robotnic and I'm completely satisfied with this whole movie. Only question is: when's the sequel coming out because I hope we can get a whole series out of this. I know I'm going to be there at to see the next movie. Especially since Tails will most likely be there. I'd rate this a good 10/10 because of how nastalgic it was. As I was watching Sonic, I was thinking back to how there were all the old Sonic games I used to enjoy playing with my family. Just seeing all the references that were used and the Green Hill zone was enough to make me really love this movie. This movie is certainly for those of all ages to enjoy and helps to remind us that Sonic will never go away and remain a great memory in our lives. I will never forget about my favorite loveable hedgehog who will continue running throughout the ages. This movie has certainly changed a lot from the worst to something everyone will enjoy and I'm one of those people. Good job to all the actors and everyone who helped to change this movie for the better. It was from all our support that we finally got to see our great, blue hero in action. Joined soon by tails and possible Knuckles. Make sure to watch it and I'm sure you won't regret it!

What else can I say? I thought that this film was funny, heartwarming, and surprising movie. The post-credits scenes are so good too, I won't give those away, you have to see the movie for yourself. I loved Sonic The Hedgehog! It was a very good movie and I highly recommend this film to any video game fan. Although I'm not a huge fan of Sonic, I really loved this film. It is no doubt the best video game movie of all time, take the time to check it out please and speed up and run to the theater to watch it again and again!

I'm making an excuse to take the kids to see this movie while in fact I want to see it for Jim Carrey alone. I remember playing Sonic for hours and hours back in the early nineties.... awwww... those were the days. After seeing the movie myself, and getting to see the personality of this Sonic, I want to see this personality in the games now.

Thought Sonic the Hedgehog was such a cute family film. The storyline was easy to follow and had a few lessons to be acknowledged along the way. Jim Carey is always a character in his roles. I thought it was a great movie for kids.Jim Carey was great but really Sonic and the deputy stole the show and my heart!

Finally! A great video game movie! This movie, while it suffers from some cringe dialogue, is amazing. Jim Carey was great as Dr. Evil. The hedgehog was very funny. This movie really cared about the sonic fans more than it did for critics. There's so many references in this movie that only a sonic fan can catch. It stayed loyal to the fans and didn't sell our to be critically loved. All in all, amazing movie.

When I went to this movie I was hoping to have more action, but instead it was mostly them hanging out at bars, riding in a car, and Sonic dying at least three times. Overall this movie was really good, and it met all of my expectations. Music was good, Ben Schwartz was great, comedy was present and good, and the story made sense. There was tons of references and scenes that directly payed homage to the original games, something I was happy to see. Even if you arent a hardcore sonic fan, see it anyways. Its totally worth it.

When was the last time a studio gave importance to the audience negative feedback and changed the entire charecter's and VFX just because of fans demanded it ? Did you remember anything like this !? No,Right ? because no one did except for Sonic : The Hedgehog team. Movie is wow. Just Wow! loved it. characters arc's are great and man,Jim Carrey was great as Robotnik. the entire setting for the movie was great enough to keep us immersive in the film. comedy worked and the visuals are dope. the emotional angle between the sonic and green hills cop(Tom) worked out well and the sonic game references and sonic voice everything was on point. if you're not a sonic game fan, still you will love the film because of its humour and funny things sonic does. Great movie - highly recommended. Watch it in theatres!

Overall, the film is a silly but lighthearted family flick full of heart, non-stop action, solid performances and faithful to the video game franchise. As if my enthusiasm wasn't clear enough. I'd highly recommend this movie for die-hard Sonic fans and families with children, they'll definitely have a blast with it. For non-Sonic fans and average moviegoers, I would only recommend it to those looking for something fun and have a good time. It may not be entirely what you expect, but you'll get something out of it in the end.

The Sonic movie was good. Better than expected! Reminds me of Sonic Adventure or Sonic X. There is much to like about this movie and I think it was well done. There is much room for expansion of the world and plenty of story to be told going forward. This gears toward a younger audience a little more, but much to like for adults as well. The collecting of Rings from the video games were utilized in a highly creative way! The only negative that I can think of is that Sonic's personality is actually quite different. He is supposed to be a little full of himself and extremely confident, but I can see why they chose this path for him. I am a HUGE Sonic fan and was worried this movie was going to be bad, but rest assured it is a surprisingly good time.

When you hear the name of the movie, you remember playing video games as a kid. Based on the story of a popular Japanese video game series, director Jeff Fowler made this fantasy science fiction movie very excellently. In the story, the director wisely wants to show Doctor Robotnik his power in the world, and how his plan destroys Sonic. I like Jim Carrey's acting. The animation is pretty good enough and the background music is too good. This movie is a must watch for the story that can be played with the story of a video game playing as a kid and can be quite enjoyable. Directed by: Jeff Fowler Based on: A Japanese video game series Rating: PG Duration: 1 hour 39 min Genre: Sci-Fi, Comedy, Action, Adventure Release Date: 14/02/2020 Cast: Jim Carrey, James Marsden, Ben Schwartz and others. My Verdict: Plot - 4/5 Soundtrack - 4/5 Characters - 4/5 Directions - 4/5

This is the movie everyone was waiting for, as it debuted as a trailer showing a much hated design of Sonic the Hedgehog. The entire film was changed due to backlash and recreated into what is considered one of the best video game movies ever made. Granted, it's still not great, but worth watching. The plot is that Sonic winds up on Earth (as an infant at first) and the story features him meeting a guy who will take him to San Francisco where he left his rings. They're being pursued by Dr. Robotnik, played by Jim Carrey. Let me just say that is so refreshing to see Jim Carrey one of his biggest comedic roles in probably decades.

I think it was a fun video game themed movie. The trailers made it seem a little less interesting than the actual movie. James Marsden did a great job and really helped carry the movie. He played a likable character and made it easy to watch and suspend your disbelief for enough time to carry on the plot. Jim Carry played the sonic villain very well - over the top, but in an appropriate way for the character. I would have liked to have seen a fat-suit on him to make him look more like the cartoon character. However, overall the movie was fun, fast-paced (no pun-intended) and would be enjoyable to rent for kids. It does have a decent amount of "cartoon style" violence, but obviously knowing your own kids would definitely help in deciding if this is appropriate for them.

I don't know what the critics were smoking but this movie is an absolute must watch! It was very funny through and through with enough backstory and sad moments to make you really feel for the character Sonic without making it into an overbearing "OKAY! WE GOT IT! HE'S LONELY!" situation. Ben Schwartz did a great job at personifying the voice of Sonic as a rambunctious teenager who has lived life (literally) in the fast lane and the various scenes portray. The humor is great for both adults (who will catch some adult jokes) and for younger audiences who enjoy random moments of slapstick, fart jokes and even more mature humor. Jim Carey was an amazing Dr. Robotnik and really put a personal spin on the maniacal bad guy. You understood where Robotnik came from and eventually why he has it out for Sonic (as well as how he got to be a human in Sonic's original world). Near the end, Carey does a Robotnik voice that is SO exact from the various cartoons and games you can almost fully witness his transformation into Eggman. The way the rings came into play was great as well, very reminiscent of the ring portals used to warp Sonic to special stages in many games. I'm really looking forward to the sequel(s?) to come! Do yourself a favor and flip off a "movie critic" and go see this movie either for yourself as a Sonic fan or with family just to get away and see a funny, non-stop entertaining film. You definitely won't be disappointed, especially with the new Sonic design that actually looks like the iconic character and not some Deviant Art abomination.

If you are a critic, or a general audience-goer, then this movie may come across as just another fun kids’ film. It is mostly aimed at that audience. But if you are, like me, a Sonic The Hedgehog fan, then what Jeff Fowler and his team have done here will leave you stunned and pleased. The references to the games and the callbacks to this character’s almost 30 year gaming history will undoubtably make any fan beam with pride. Even as a movie, from a non-Sonic perspective, it’s quite the enjoyable flick. Carrey taps into his manic 90’s energy which made films like “The Mask” so enjoyable, specifically when we see him tap into the goofy nature of Robotnik’s character. Schwartz delivers what may be the best portrayal of the character to date, and he delivers some lines during the emotional scenes which will kick you right in the feels. The rest of the supporting cast is great with some stand-outs being Lee Majdoub’s Character, Agent Stone, Robotnik’s lackey who is also a complete suck-up with some great latte-making skills, and Natasha Rothwell’s character, Rachel, the sister of Tika Sumpter’s character Maddie, who isn’t very approving of Maddie’s marriage to Tom “Donut Lord” Wachowski (Played by James Marsden). Alongside the great cast, the soundtrack is beautiful, long time Sonic fans may recognise the orchestrated version of the SEGA chant during the opening credits. The cinematography is good, and after his makeover (which of course delayed the film), Sonic is very cute and incredibly expressive, and despite being on a lesser budget, the titular character’s CGI still looks quite realistic. Overall, a great film that anyone can enjoy.

This movie is breath of fresh air to say the least. I was genuinely surprised at the new take on the origins of Sonic and Robotnik and how they incorporated Earth into their backstories. The visuals were amazing.so amazing that you'd better believe this movie would've been a dumpster fire with no love from the audience if they kept their original model of Sonic. They made Sonic likeable, which would've been another deal breaker if they didn't nail that. The music was pleasant. Some of the acting could've been better, but Jim Carrey was the right choice for Eggman. It's just the pacing of the plot and some of the dialouge that took the hardest hit. The plot in and of itself was fine and simple, but the way they progressed the plot made it feel anything but smooth.

This movie was amazing and definitely should be nominated for the Oscars and many other awards. After the release of the emoji movie and cats i thought that nothing could top my high tier list of movies but this movie just blew my expectations through the roof. It showed so much emotion even in the trailer when he said "meow" i really felt true emotion and peak acting in such a top tier movie like this one. The end credits scene is just astonishing and mr Jim Carrey was as good as he was in the ace ventura movie so ill definitely give credit to him .

This movie is the most visually appealing movie and has an absolutely breathtakingly original and unexpected soundtrack. It has the effect of emerging the audience in the experience and brings the most wholesome feeling of nostalgia to long time fans. The absolute genius of the script writers and Animators is clearly shown in this work of art which is done no justice by its trailer. The perfect production of this movie is exemplified by Jim Carrey’s classic slapstick humor and the story which the movie, as unexpected as it was, followed the actual sonic cannon perfectly. While my Favorite movie used to be INTERSTELLAR, it is now undoubtedly Sonic the Hedgehog.

This movie is absolutely AMAZING! My family has been waiting almost two years since we heard about a Sonic movie in development, and it was completely worth it; we came to see it three times during the past couple weeks, and it never gets old. All of the actors did a great job - much better than many of Disney's latest movies and another game-based movie I've seen (no offense to them, but I think it's true). Jim Carrey did perfectly playing Doctor Robotnik; he was super funny and lively, and no one could have done it better. Sonic is so cute and he was very expressive, showing so much emotion and humor throughout the entire movie.

Sonic keeps a lot of his snarky yet charming personality from the games, just smoothed down and refined for his big screen debut. Jim Carrey steals the show as Robotnik, really felt like a 90's Jim Carrey movie when he was in action and goes to show that he's never really lost his edge and has only gotten sharper and funnier as time has gone on. Tom Wachowski is a good character with his own problems that help to create relatability with Sonic in some aspects of the plot. Maddie Wachowski is a fun character who works well with Tom Wachowski, they've done a great job making those 2 characters compliment eachothers performance.

How much is that hedgehog in the window? Pure Oxegon! Hooting Awesomeness! So fresh. Every aspect of talent was exalted. A Banana Split Sundae under a Double Rainbow with a unicorn film with fireworks. Even ants! See this film it's just wonderful. Simply exhilarating! It's a bull's eye narrative about People celebrating all that life brings, happiness, sadnesses, in a nice smart millennial world dashed with Andy Griffith spice meets alien meets big brother. Comedy Action with Speed. Did I say funny. The narrative builds a sentimental bucket list of white picket fence desires that percolate with the inner-longst in finding a place and a dream...a friend. Spending no time to dwell on the past or self pity, each character bravely looks at their weaknesses and strengths as they vibrantly live what Life has given them. The Animation is the finest blue suede fur you'll ever/never have! The Maddest Science Lab on wheels for Royal Villains. Cinematography is picture perfect small town The score is a swelling orchestration like Appalachian Spring meets Norman Rockwell and Air Supply. Right music right mood. The brilliant character portrayals are spectacular. Jim Carrey is entrancing and tight as a drum like a go-go dancer with 100 miles of refurbished defensive baggage James Marsden sweet and likeable and self assured goofy nice guy Ben Schwartz gives cheeky and peaches, whip cream and snails and puppy dog tails. Tika Sumpter charming all bases covered I got your back partner Director Jeff Fowler handles this so finely tuned, the comic situations are with layers so easy breezy. It sparkles and is a spectacle. Writers Patrick Casey, Josh Miller, and Yuji Naka Some of the best natural dialogue without profanity, just one comraderie bff fart joke. Complex genuine heart on the shoulder solid relationships, with mix and scruff and crusty and villains. The best 3 Liners! What is the problem of being the smartest person in the whole world? its that everyone else is stupid. This is pure family adrenaline home run entertainment. Kids will Holler. Adults will Holler. So exciting and firecracky! Final Thoughts This film hits all the dimensional fantasy algorithms. If u believe in fairytales and don't look gift horse's in the mouth If u want good things to happen to you and your loved ones and appreciate sprinkle cupcakes this is our film if u concern urself with the brouhaha of the animation changes, blah blah blah -stay home and look in a mirror and write ur life's screenplay What the world needs now is everything Sonic & Family delivers and portrays. Standing up for Earnest Simplicity and Sincerity. And the rocket's red glare. This is one film not to miss

7 years of waiting, finally I wait no more. This film completely exceeded my expectations, especially for a family movie. There are quite a few jokes put in for older audiences and they hit quite well. Really faithful to the legacy of the Sonic The Hedgehog franchise whilst being it's own seperate thing from the games and comics. Ben Schwartz suits sonic very well, especially since he's already an experienced actor and voice actor. Whilst I still have a soft spot for Roger Craig Smith's Sonic portrayal from the last 10 years but Ben really knows how it should be done when trying to portray a cocky 15 year old anthropomorphic hedgehog. Ben's voice would fall just in the middle with pitch giving us a much more believable teenage voice, Roger's Sonic voice has gotten a lot better since his debut but he has never sounded like a believable 15 year old. Overall this is a great film that I believe anyone can enjoy, it's got the clichés of a typical family road trip movie but the charm of the film really blurs those clichés. 10/10 from me, not one of my top 3 favourite films of all time but fits nicely in my top 10 for the comedy and faithfulness. Go and see this movie, you won't regret doing so. (stay until after the credits, you will be very happy if you're a fan of the film or Sonic as a whole!)

This movie gave me hope. It gave me hope that yes video games do have a chance to become great movies. The plot while not being flawless is still a great and wonderful time. Had low expectations for this movie, I thought this will be one of those kids movie that makes pop culture reference after pop culture reference, but when I was about 10 mins in I found that I was already invested in the film. The actors were great in this movie and worked surprisingly well together, Sonic and Tom were written so well together. Worth watching.

I enjoyed this movie from start to finish. I really enjoyed how Sonic was given a back story on his home planet. That was a different side of him that was really interesting to see. He was really talkative, but it was in an exciting, curious, and comedic way. The visual effects of how Sonic looked and moved were on point; I have no complaints there. On the other hand, I was not too happy with what was done with his notorious Spin Dash signature move. The Spin Dash looked amazing, but it sounded underplayed. Dr. Robotnik was entertaining. I was hoping to see a little more of him on screen though. I am hoping if there is a sequel, there will be more of a clash between both Dr. Robotnik and Sonic.

The storyline is pretty simple, but still it doesn't mean it's bad, the main advantage of this movie is its fun and a huge amount of energy, it has great action scenes and I just love that kind of relationship between the main characters. I give this film four stars, because I feel like it would've been better. I would've liked it more if it was like a typical "blue hedgehog tale" we witness in the games and comics, with Sonic and his friends having fun adventures fighting robots, than an average family comedy movie. However, while not an Oscar nominee, this film will always remain one of my favorites in my heart, and I look forward to the sequel anytime soon. For many young kids, the superfast blue hedgehog Sonic and his archnemesis, Dr. Robotnik, are likely as inscrutable as every other Sega game character from the late ’90s: as unrecognizable as, say, the word inscrutable. But even if they don’t know Sonic from his platforming, super-speed, jump-and-spin gaming days or yore, they’ll likely still enjoy his new high-energy, live-action movie. This big-screen take on Sega’s anthropomorphized cobalt cannonballer is mostly cute and cuddly. Sonic’s story is quick, involving, and packed with nice lessons about caring for the ones you love and being grateful for the blessings you have. And Dr. Robotnik—played with melodramatic, Ace Ventura-like panache by Jim Carrey—sports as much zany zeal as mellifluous menace as he squints out from behind his heavily-waxed mustache. Granted, throwback Jim Carrey-isms can sometimes open the door to some slightly edgier moments. Parents, you’ll have to decide how many “OMGs,” “What the hecks,” winking giggles and “pickled farts” you’ll want your youngsters to endure. As for the film’s more intense moments, that early scene with Longclaw Owl taking an arrow is probably the only one with the potential to upset particularly sensitive viewers. That said, these moments never feel as if they cross any truly uncomfortable lines or stray too far from the expected PG-rated, kid-pic loop de loops. And hey, for older game fans, there’s even gold-ring gathering and a big boss battle to boot. Woohoo

All publicity is not good publicity, as the team behind the live action Sonic the hedgehog discovered when the film's trailer was released in April 2019. Fans of the 1991 Sega video game were disturbed by the animated blue hedgehog's uncanny human proportions, and so the project was delayed six months in order to fix the problem. The freshly redesigned Sonic, voiced by Parks and Recreation's Ben Schwartz, is certainty cutter than his previous iteration, squat and cheeky next to James Marsden's sleepy, Hollywood handsome sheriff. Yet as in the case of Tom Hooper's hastily smoothed out Cats, the improved visual effects do little to enhance the two dimensional storytelling.

Sonic, you see, has taken refuge on Earth, watching but keeping his distance from its denizens. When the government becomes alerted to his presence, they set Robotnik on his tail, giving Carrey license to slip into his "The Mask" mode, twirling moustache and all.Even as undemanding kids fare, the formula represents a thin concoction, with the most amusing gag in which the superfast Sonic manipulates those around him while they appear to stand still essentially pilfered from the later X-Men movies, where the Quicksilver character does much the same.Marsden gamely plays off the blue CGI blur opposite him, while his character learns a valuable lesson about what's really important in life. But even with plenty of callbacks to the game, director Jeff Fowler and writers Patrick Casey and Josh Miller labor to gin up enough material including, of all things, a bar fight to stretch the bare-boned plot to something approximating a movie.
