The movie ended on high note and the climax was almost predictable. The sudden change of Maanvi's feeling towards Chaman Kohli wasn't elobaorated and was a hole in the plot. Her unsacrifising love for him all of a sudden wasn't explained. The movie portrayed well enough the stereotypes and reservation in the society towards bald men. Kohli was shown embarrassed and reserved over his baldness. His need to get a trophy wife was also something that every Indian men aspire. The movie has its fair share of laughter and mirth element in it. Barring few scenes the movie can be watched with family. I liked the movie and enjoyed it thoroughly
The movie story and plot was really awesome and specially the character of girl was genuinely true. Usually men have this complexity in their mind that it doesn't matter how they themselves look but they want a beautiful wife in every way. This movie has destroyed this stereotype thinking and one should watch it to feel it. Also please don't force your kids to marry once they reach 30, when they will feel they will marry is whats the concept of the movie
We didn’t have any expectations when we decided to watch this one. But we were pleasantly suprised with how good it was. It starts on a slow note and picks up pace gradually. The amazing thing about this movie is the acting from the lead stars. Sunny Singh is a revelation. If you liked his good boy role in Kartik starter Sony ke Titu ki Sweety .. then this will make you notice him - He shines and how ! This movie really brings out the message really well. I totally recommend it !
To start off the story, one half of the movie is purely an exercise in Chaman Kohli's (Sunny Singh) persecution complex.Barring a campus peon (Sharib Hashmi), everybody solely exists to torment him -- be it the younger brother (Gagan Arora) hitting on the same girl he was hoping to get pally with, parents (Atul Kumar, Grusha Kapoor) who insist on astrological invention, (Saurabh Shukla) that predicts lifelong celibacy unless he marries before 31 and a college principal who assumes he's middle-aged because of the widening bald patch.Just as I was wondering why is the college principal acting like a kirana store owner, the fella himself bellows, 'Maine kirane ki dukaan khol rakhi hai jo change rakhoonga?'.Doing their bit as the loudmouth Delhiite Punjabis, Bollywood cannot get enough of, Atul Kumar and Grusha Kapoor's comic skills are relegated to a shouting match.
Everyone sneers at Chaman Kohli - The dashboard of his car has a smirking bobblehead. The first girl he falls for is named Aaina - a Hindi lecturer at Delhi’s Hans Raj College. Chaman’s regular parking spot has a vandalized scrawl: Takle ki parking. Life in short, is a series of humiliations for Chaman. There’s something to be said about the slapstick nature of movies like Ujda Chaman. Frequently growing in number, these films reveal in their false engagement with social misfits.
Sunny Singh and Maanvi Gagroo starrer Ujda Chaman has a promising and relative story but the inconsistent execution and predictable narrative spoils the show. Despite an interesting concept its the weak screenplay and direction that makes the film fall flat. Overall it's week writing and the film doesn't have something new to offer.
Ujda Chaman is beyond redemption: no transplant or patch can conceal its blemishes. There are just too many of them. The lead actors (Sunny Singh and Maanvi Gagroo) and the supporting cast (Atul Kumar, Sharib Hashmi and Saurabh Shukla) are too good for a film as misguided as this one. They do their very best to salvage what they can. They are saddled with a script that is hopelessly patchy and devoid of subtlety.
Chaman Kohli (Sunny Singh), a college professor in Delhi, is balding at the age of 30. To make matters worse for him and his family, an astrologer has said if he doesn’t get married before turning 31, he will be consigned to a life of celibacy. But girls keep turning him down, while he also becomes the butt of insensitive jokes on account of his receding hairline. And the girl who does accept him isn’t the type he wants to be with. This in a nutshell is the story of 'Ujda Chaman'. The plot is interesting. There is a relevant social message in it, and there is some quirky comedy as well. But the writing is weak and there is no subtlety in the approach.
Just watched it last night ... was pleasantly surprised with everything that the movie had to offer. Acting by Sunny Singh is just perfect ... i don’t see any other actor doing justice to this role. I liked him in Sonu ki Sweety as well but with this movie he clearly holds the movie on his own. Apart from him, i think the supporting cast did a great job too and everyone pitched in with some great performances. Anybody looking for a decent weekend watch - I highly recommend this one. Go catch it !
One of the best things about Ujda Chaman I have found is that the jokes are not all obvious, and because of this it has far more re-watchability than most comedies, I have seen the movie twice already, once with friends and then with Mom and Dad. If you really need a good laugh out loud movie, to make you feel good, this is one of them! We were rolling with laughter
