Anupam posted a review for Dark Phoenix in Movies
Even though I heard the film received extremely and unbelievably negative reviews all over, I didn't change my mind and went for an afternoon show today in IMAX 3D. I found it enjoyable to the core as I didn't look for flaws or something even close to that. The audience turnout had also been quite lower than usual following the negative talk but I still enjoyed it like any other X-Men movie. Dark Phoenix will feel familiar in parts largely because of the plot being pretty similar to X-Men: The Last Stand that also had Jean Grey in the same avatar. So I won't say you should be expecting a completely new story here but the presentation is what really works big time. It gets the viewer gripped from the opening dialogue to the very last moment with its fast paced screenplay and well executed nonstop action. Sophie Turner's performance as Jean Grey truly stands out. James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender also deliver impressive performances as expected. Jessica Chastain's character can be considered a welcome addition to the X-Men series even though we aren't going to see it again, possibly. I wish some characters were used to the fullest, like Storm and a few more, but with time I didn't think about this anymore. Visual effects are top notch. You really need to see the film in 3D and in the highest possible quality, if you really want to see it in the first place. And since this is first and foremost an action film, it doesn't forget to deliver all the superhero action viewers want. That should be enough to experience this cool summer blockbuster on the big screen, at least once. Call it anything, love it or hate it, the film will definitely work well with an audience of its own. As per reports, it might have bombed at the box office, but it has chances of doing better upon home video release. Even though comparisons with The Last Stand are inevitable, the film is still an impressive visual spectacle that doesn't deserve the heavy amount of hate it has been getting.

Anupam posted a review for India`s Most Wanted in Movies
So what does India really need at this time when Modiji has just scripted a resounding victory for his second term. The Country is in a celebratory mood and what better way to rejoice in this nationalist fervour than have a celluloid party to treat yourself to. And Bollywood is quick to oblige - with not one, but two offerings in this week to make sure that the audience is spoilt for choice. I still haven't gathered courage to watch the other one which is more specifically about our Political Leader. But took a chance with this one - India's Most Wanted. Celebrating the patriotic spirit which has gripped our Nation currently was the order of the day - and the order from the Missus for booking of tickets was something which could not be disregarded. So off we went to see a Movie which was totally devoid of a star cast. But it has Arjun Kapoor in the lead. So I reiterate my point that after a long gap, Bollywood has come up with a Commercial Movie barren of a star cast. Maybe the Producers were on a shoe-string budget. Maybe the Producers just wanted to spite the Public and serve up a dish so dry - that they refused to even have a female lead in the movie. Again a novelty which is being seen in a Bollywood Commercial Movie after eons. Then maybe at some stage of filming, even the Producers realized that they were playing with fire, as far as making of Commercial Movies go, as they were doing a Project with no star cast and no female lead - maybe then they felt that they had to have a safety net. So they roped in the self-proclaimed Badashah of India Cinema - SRK himself - that too for not one ........ but two scenes. The only saving grace, for me, was that they had the good sense of not showing the titular character in frame and neither did they have him voicing any dialogue. So why did they have him referred to in the movie at all ????? Initially I thought it may have been to add masala to a dry film - but then as the movie unfolds - the brilliance of the movie, the brilliance of the makers, the brilliance of the non-star actors - all comes to the fore ......... and how ........ the movie is a visual treat of 124 minutes. And ofcourse the reference - done twice - to the Superstar SRK is justified in the end credits and that is when we realize that the very able Director did not need masala for anything dry - but it was a great way to integrate that particular incident related to the Superstar in the story. And the Director is pretty able. Knows his trade. He has a good repertoire of films in his kitty already. And his earlier products have been pretty mean achievements as well. Aamir, No one killed Jessica, Raid - all have had critical acclaim. Raj Kumar Gupta dishes out another spellbinding thriller, which has all the right ingredients - a good tight script, a story based on true events, fantastic unchartered locales, great cinematography and very importantly he derives the greatest acting skills from his non-star cast. The maraduering team of misfits out to effectuate a capture which for a number of years has eluded the most potent intelligence agencies of the Country. The Primary Informer. The Secondary Source - who has probably essayed the role of his lifetime. The leader of this gang of merry men - Rajesh Sharma, who is getting better with each passing movie. The other cogs in the wheel like the Pakistani Intelligence Officers, their Nepali counterparts, the Terrorist - all the non-stars have put in a very determined and effective showing. Maybe the collective whole of non-stars realized that they needed to step forward in the absence of a Star to lift up the movie. And how well do they do it.

Anupam posted a review for Bharat in Movies
It is a Salman Khan Spectacle that enthrals you undoubtedly. Yes it’s got mixed reviews and some complain about the length but if it entertains you through its trajectory then y complain?? Salman as Bharat looks fit as fiddle n deadly handsome so it’s a delight to watch him on screen, after debacles like Race 3 & Tubelight. Bharat is a potpourri of emotions, action, humour, music, charm, love and a beautiful dose of patriotism. It is inspired from the Korean Film “An ode to father” but this has deep rooted Indianness to suit the audience. Salman as 70 year old doesn’t really shine as greyed hair doesn’t make you old, acting does. Everyone can’t be a Rocky Balboa aka Stallone who plays his age with elan. As Bharat takes you through his memoirs, it makes you relive the partition era where the story begins to daredevilry acts in a circus to oil rigs in Middle East to the merchant navy adventure in the sea. But unlike Zero movie this one is in complete form. Each era or phase has an interesting story to watch Sunil Grover gets a meaty role sharing every scene with Salman and boy he does shine with his decent humour, the scenes of physical test being hilarious. Satish Kaushik in his little role is hilarious too Katrina with her dishevelled hair looks less glamorous and looks into the character rather than the porcelain doll she is usually portrayed as. The casting has been atrocious in terms of Jackie playing his dad and Sonali Kulkarni his mom LOL But otherwise the casting is tremendously striking and has fresh faces, each one a delight if you know actors beginning from Meiyang Chang the ex Indian Idol host n handsome dentist, Kumud Mishra a fave of mine, Shashank Arora, Kashmira Irani, Satish Kaushik, Tabu,Asif Ali etc. Glam dolls Disha Patani and Nora Fatehi add the enchantment. The movie takes you through generations touching upon partition, Nehru, Shahrukh n Sachin, Manmohan Singh etc.. The beautiful efforts to tie up India Pakistan warms up your heart. The songs are apt especially Zinda hu main tujhme, hummable Meethi Chashni and Peppy Slow Motion. Overall, it is a good watch though can test your patience sometimes and larger than life thought process but it’s a Salman movie

Anupam posted a review for Aladdin in Movies
Alright, I was 11 when Aladdin came out in '92 and I instantly fell in love with the film and soundtrack. Now fast forward to tonight and I've now seen the live adaptation at 38. I won't lie, I was super skeptical about the film for so many reasons but the main reason was that Robin Williams could never be replaced as the Genie. I was ready to leave the theater within the first 20 minutes due to the pacing of the film but I knew I couldn't do that without seeing what the always charismatic Will Smith could possibly do to fill these impossible blue shoes. I am SO glad that I stayed because as soon as the Friend Like Me song started the movie flipped the nostalgic kid switch in me. It was such an amazing sequence and I knew instantly that Will Smith was the perfect casting for this role. I'm certain that Robin Williams would approve of his respectful take. If you have reservations about this film, let them go. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with what entire cast and crew were able to create. It may not be a whole new world but it's pretty close !!!

Anupam posted a review for The Hustle in Movies
Fun movie to watch at a girls night out. It didnt take itself to serious and the flow of the movie made it go by pretty fast without any stretched out scenes. Great directing and cinematography, found that part pleasing especially in a comedy film. Usually wouldnt watch a comedy at the theaters but through out the whole film and consistent use of colors and shots that potrayed each character and their personality were used. Nothing terribly inappropriate in the movie but it is what you would expect from a comedy, however it didnt rely on fart jokes. Once again, a good movie for a girls night out and didnt take it self to serious. Both performances i found it well acted and it didnt seem akward at all, every one in the theater i was at seemed to laugh and have a good time, but after, some remarks were made about the length and substance. Personally i like it as. a frivolous hour and a half film.
