Boopathy posted a review for Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior in Movies
Finally, a movie that tells the true story of Chhatrapati Shivaji and his crazy brave Maratha warriors, in the way it should be told. The special effects, background score, and dialogues are simply out of this world. There is not one single second when you will get distracted or feel like checking your phone or talking to your buddies. The movie simply grabs your attention from the first reel till the end of the credits. There is so much passion in everything from the acting to the music to the screenplay to narration to editing that you'll end up at least wanting to cry if not jump into the fight and help win Kondhana fort. Clear national award winning direction and Oscar nomination worthy action. Acting is superlative. Ajay Devgan is convincing as the insanely brave and intelligent warrior while Saif makes you hate him from the bottom of your heart for his cruelty. Kajol does very well in her limited screen time. Sharad Kelkar who plays Chhatrapati Shivaji, plays the role perfectly. His eyes accurately depict his pain while waiting to see victory of Kondhana aka Sinhagad fort. Every scene and dialogue from the get go flows seamlessly into the next right till the end. Simply put, A MUST WATCH, NOT ONCE, BUT MANY TIMES OVER! P.S.: If you are in India, do watch in 3D - you will not regret it!!

Boopathy posted a review for Shimla Mirchi in Movies
Without giving any spoilers, the film is about Avi (Rajkummar Rao) who visits Shimla during his holiday and falls in love with Naina (Rakul Preet Singh). Avi takes up a job in the hills to act on his love for Naina. However, his only weakness is that he is never able to confess his feelings for the woman he loves. Avi, on the advice of his friend writes a love letter, which lands in the hand of Naina’s mother Rukmani (Hema Malini). Rukmani is a woman who is struggling from low self-esteem after her husband left her for another woman and comes to the conclusion that Avi is her secret admirer. Naina who is aware of the situation plays up to this to keep her mother sane. Talking about the film, there are no surprises when it comes to the script of SHIMLA MIRCHI. However, the script (Ramesh Sippy, Kausar Munir, Rishi Virmani and Vipul Binjola) is tight and comes straight to the point. What stands out the most, and lights up the film are the characters and dialogues in the otherwise tried and tested genre. The dialogues are good and play a huge part in keeping the audience engaged. The stark commentary on the love life of the lead actors is sure to generate some laughs. The film marks Ramesh Sippy's return to direction after a long time — while he returned to direction after 20 years, he will see his directorial venture release only after 25 years. Ramesh Sippy focuses completely on the central characters and does not care to indulge much into the external environment of these characters. Sippy has a great hold over the plot and at no point does he deviate from the central topic. On the whole, SHIMLA MIRCHI makes for a decent small town romance with impressive performances. At the box office, the low buzz and lack of promotions will ensure that the movie will fizzle out eventually.

Boopathy posted a review for Good Newwz in Movies
It's definitely a good news for the Bollywood lovers as this romcom gives us a perfect hilarious flick as we say bye bye to 2019! Good Newwz may have a multiple starcast with Akshay, Kareena, Diljit and Kiara, along with the fab doc couple Adil and Tisca, but it's mostly Akshay who makes us ROFL (in whole of the first half) and cry (in some of the terrific emotional scenes in the second half). However it doesn't mean that others give some average work. Kareena, Diljit, Adil, Kiara and Tisca are wonderful too and have done a great job! Kudos to the director, writing team, cameramen and ofcourse the casting director (everyone is apt for their roles) for the tremendous work. Music is fun too in this movie and it merges with the plot splendidly! Guys, just go watch this wonder and return home in a happy mood.

Boopathy posted a review for Cats in Movies
Utterly brilliant, and totally bonkers. It never loses it's theatricality, but can do so much more than any stage production could. Imaginative, brilliantly executed and very sexy. Idris Elba as a cat, my god! The cast is excellent throughout, especially the dancers Francesca Hayward and Robbie Fairchild. I wasn't quite sure about Ian McKellan - would have preferred a better singer in that role - but that is a minor quibble, he is still very good as you would expect. Francesca Hayward gets to sing the new song which complements perfectly Jennifer Hudson's very raw rendition of Memory, which really means something here - much more than just a pretty tune. Taylor Swift is good too. The set is amazing. The CGI is amazing. The choreography is amazing. The choreography is actually the real star, effortlessly blending ballet, tap, jazz and Busby Berkeley kitsch all dosed in a furry feline aesthetic. Absolutely breathtaking. One minute stunningly beautiful and poignant, the next totally ridiculous - tap-dancing mice and cockroaches. I said the CGI is amazing - I think it is. The twitching cat ears, the fur, and the tails, and not forgetting, presumably, much of the set. Reading other reviews it seems the cat CGI is what many people have had a problem with. I had no problem with it at all, and for me it helped keep the other-wordly theatre-y feel, which I liked. Most of the songs don't do much for me - fairly humdrum - but the production elements lift them up several notches, and combined with a most bizarre plot, it all adds up to a great slice of entertainment.

Boopathy posted a review for Dabangg 3 in Movies
If you loved the prequels, Dabangg 3 is a treat! Chulbul Pandey gets an interesting origin story in the flashback, even though it gets stretched longer due to random placement of songs. The second half also has songs that could've been trimmed (except Munna song). Nevertheless, Salman steals the show with his spectacular action and comic timing. His performance in the interval sequence is outstanding. After two breakneck fights, the first half gets slow due to the flashback episode, while the second one is brilliantly executed with explosive action and solid writing. The action sequences are just outstanding and breathtaking. Each and every set piece is excellently handled. Technically, this film is a visual masterpiece. Cinematography is splendid. Music is also charming. There are a few very well-written twists as well. Dabangg 3 is in short an entertaining action comedy that has the right mix of action, humor and emotion, despite some slow pacing and abrupt song placing in a few parts. For Salman/action genre fans, this is an unmissable blockbuster worth experiencing on the big screen
