Chandru posted a review for Angrezi Medium in Movies
“Angrezi Medium” Well, Bollywood missed the affable actor Irfaan Khan and he is back with a sensible delight. For folks who watched Hindi Medium, this is kinda take on what happens when the kid grows..Like most kids who take a flight to some city abroad for better education and quality , still need basic English skills. The movie doesn’t preach about English but the core cynosure is the father daughter relationship n the movie has an amazing humour quotient. The movie starts on a slow note with sweet scenes and As you feel it’s gonna be slow it picks up wonderfully in second half. The movie elevates to give you the full worth and enchantment as it provides you a lot through the London travailing. The drunk scenes where the brothers commit to their little acts of pulling each other down is fun. The entire movie gives you laughs throughout keeping it in lighter vein. The conflict between the father and daughter to her new going freedom and zeal to live in a new world is relatable to every father in some of the other circumstances Beneath all the humour, the underlying current of emotions be it between the father daughter, the undisputed love between brothers, the hard relationship between Kareena and Dimple, the independence and responsibilities of being alone as a migrant student, they all tug at your heart. Irfaan looks pale after his bout of ill Health. But he has his acting charm intact and manages to make the movie worth a watch. Radhika Madan acts well & with her tight lipped conversation she does quite well in her accent. Deepak compliments Irfaan excellently and is a treat to watch Movis brings together other fantastic actors like Pankaj Tripathi, Dimple Kapadia, Ranveer Shorey n Kiku Sharda gets some scope outside Kapil Sharma show . Ofcourse the diva Kareena needs a special mention. A lovely movie to watch one time !!

Chandru posted a review for Onward in Movies
This is genuinely the single most amazing animated film I have ever seen- sure, it falls into some common laugh-inducing tropes (angry bikers, magical and mundane mishaps forcing characters to do things they were shown to struggle with) but in my opinion, they only added to the charm. Seeing characters escape tight situations and end up bettering themselves for it is something that I think is super important for children (and teens) to see- even if they struggle they can do amazing things. This said, the whole film is not a simple cliched flick, the story is engaging (more than many adult-aimed blockbusters I've seen) and while I won't spoil anything, the ending is not what you expect from a children's film- or even most films aimed at adults. It doesn't do what you expect it to all the time, so it keeps feeling new and refreshing. Even if a character doesn't get what they thought they wanted, they learn what they need to. I, for one, am beyond excited to see what Dan Scanlon has in store next, if it's even half as good as Onward is it's gonna be better than most of the movies out there in my eyes. Highly recommended for the whole family, but it does involve aspects of parental death as the wiki will tell you, though more importantly the theme I take away from the film is one of brotherly love- whether you have one or simply wished you had one, if you are hit hard by familial relationships then expect to choke up a little at least!

Chandru posted a review for Sonic The Hedgehog in Movies
7 years of waiting, finally I wait no more. This film completely exceeded my expectations, especially for a family movie. There are quite a few jokes put in for older audiences and they hit quite well. Really faithful to the legacy of the Sonic The Hedgehog franchise whilst being it's own seperate thing from the games and comics. Sonic keeps a lot of his snarky yet charming personality from the games, just smoothed down and refined for his big screen debut. Jim Carrey steals the show as Robotnik, really felt like a 90's Jim Carrey movie when he was in action and goes to show that he's never really lost his edge and has only gotten sharper and funnier as time has gone on. Tom Wachowski is a good character with his own problems that help to create relatability with Sonic in some aspects of the plot. Maddie Wachowski is a fun character who works well with Tom Wachowski, they've done a great job making those 2 characters compliment eachothers performance. Ben Schwartz suits sonic very well, especially since he's already an experienced actor and voice actor. Whilst I still have a soft spot for Roger Craig Smith's Sonic portrayal from the last 10 years but Ben really knows how it should be done when trying to portray a cocky 15 year old anthropomorphic hedgehog. Ben's voice would fall just in the middle with pitch giving us a much more believable teenage voice, Roger's Sonic voice has gotten a lot better since his debut but he has never sounded like a believable 15 year old. Overall this is a great film that I believe anyone can enjoy, it's got the clichés of a typical family road trip movie but the charm of the film really blurs those clichés. 10/10 from me, not one of my top 3 favourite films of all time but fits nicely in my top 10 for the comedy and faithfulness. Go and see this movie, you won't regret doing so. (stay until after the credits, you will be very happy if you're a fan of the film or Sonic as a whole!)

Chandru posted a review for The Call of the Wild in Movies
It was ok, the middle school aged kids will love Buck. The scenery was beautiful. The characters were good except the rich dude with his drunk girl friend and scummy friend. His acting was over the top in Snidely Whiplash territory. Harrison was good and I liked the two mail carriers. Now, if you read Jack London's book, you probably will be very disappointed and maybe a bit peeved that the writers of this movie script were so damned lazy. The movie felt rushed and segmented. There were very distinct chapters with no cohesive links to establish a smooth flow for the movie. Also, the writers just had to insert the PC culture in there which really irritates me. Does only a very shallow nod to London's original story but that is the quality of a lot of movies today. What a shame because this had the potential for an incredible movie. My overall feeling after watching this movie was disappointment.

Chandru posted a review for Bhoot: Part One - The Haunted Ship in Movies
The premise of the movie was very promising and could have lead to many horror avenues. The first half is engaging and has a few jump scares to keep you hooked. The story as well, up to that point is intriguing, however the second half , as with most indian horror movies is where the story starts to fizzle. It is the cliched indian horror movie story arc, where the "ghost" is humanized and given a traumatic backstory where even though you are supposed to be scared of it, you start sympathizing with it. Which ruins the build up and all the scares, I dont think bollywood has figured out that fear is complimented by mystery, humans are inherently scared of things they dont understand. So when you give the ghost a name and a backstory , it ruins the entire plot There are a few good jump scares and a good backstory given to the protagonist and how he is dealing with is internal conflict but the ending is just too 2002 and "fear file"inspired, that you can predict the ending around 40 minutes before it happens. The special effects didnt help either, it's not too bad but comical towards the end. All in all , a story with great potential but is squandered by lazy writing in the second half. Performances are good all round and vicky Kaushal steals the show as usual. Will give it a 4 star rating, it would have been a great horro tv show episode at best.
