"Blackmail" is a virgin territory in the comedy genre. It is heady and hedonistic, cocky and compelling in the way the comedies of Hrishikesh Mukherjee and Basu Chatterjee used to be. If only these veterans could see the sexiness that underlines all gender wars. "Blackmail" is a closeted Hrishikesh Mukherjee comedy with oodles of extra voluptuousness.
The plot of Blackmail is its hero and it manages to strike a good balance between dark and funny. Characters are bumped off, sometimes in most gory detail and strange events unfold, but the film never loses its vein of easy, black humour. This is one of the most wickedly funny films that we’ve seen in a long time. Of course, do not take the film's message to heart. The movie simply recommends that when you discover that everyday situations are threatening to defeat you – like your wife having an affair or a bank harrowing you for EMIs -- just resort to pure, simple blackmail. Now, this should not be followed in real life, but in the film this works because the context is bang on. And it is done with more humour than bad intent.
The story gets repetitive as one blackmail plays over another and soon enough, the energy deflates. Blackmail is about controlled chaos but to pull that off, you need much sharper writing and a faster pace. Blackmail is twenty minutes too long and unnecessarily bloated. At one point, Urmila Matondkar shows up in a nightclub. It’s nice to see her on screen again but it adds little to the film. I also wish the talented Kirti Kulhari had more to do. Abhinay clearly has a keen eye for the darkness and absurdity of daily life but Blackmail isn’t sparkling enough to sustain interest.
The movie is very fast paced and the suspense is their till the end. The movie has some Laugh Out Loud moments. All the star cast performed well especially irrfan khan as lead steals the show these characters are just made for him no one can pull a performance like this except irrfan. All in all a perfect well made comedy thriller.

The backbone of Blackmail can be said to be the hero and the main character manages to strike a decent harmony between funny and dark. All in all a good thriller movie. Watch “Blackmail” for irrfan khan for his outstanding performances. good story and superb acting. must watch movie.
Again Irrfan proves he is a superbly versatile artists. Glad he enjoys making such movies because Bollywood nowadays is all about shedding clothes, crappy remakes, untalented newbies, depraved of good storylines and egocentric stars. good role and acting of irfan khan as usual
Action is good, Comedy is pretty average and very good thriller movie. Just loved the story and as we all know how Irfan Khan acts and yes he just nailed it. Fan for his acting and timing. What an actor he is.. and not to forget gret direction. Just loved it
Blackmail is a beautiful movie that will simply amaze you. Irrfan Khan has done amazing work and wins the audience in an instant because of his acting skills. The new talent kirti kulhari has also done flawless acting and it is really impressive that new talent is so good in bollywood. I would give Blackmail 4 out of 5 stars.
Great movie by Irrfan Khan. Once again you cannot fail to notice how effortlessly Irrfan plays his roles. This is the reason his movies are so beautiful. Not to forget the new star, Kirti Kulhari did equally amazing job as well and the audience did get pleased by her acting skills.
Blackmail is a superb movie which packs action, thrill, drama everything that you are looking for in a movie. Irrfan Khan again proves why he is so famous when it comes to acting. definitely a must watch if you are an Irrfan Khan fan. I would like to give it 4 stars.
The typical self made star irfan Khan movie is a wicked and delightful black comedy. He just act as like he lives the character. His correct emotions and gestures perfectly clarify and dignifying his character which is surely the boost for the film. Coming to the lead actress kirti kulhari acting level is not upto the mark , she is just a show piece in the movie for showing the affair of a married lady with her ex boyfriend after marriage and nothing else. She couldn't show her acting talent.even the support actress divya dutta acting and overall performance and presence in the movie is far better. Coming to direction and screenplay , this abhinoy deo venture is absolutely a benchmark for such black comedy genre movie. He shows the combination of comedy with suspense and seriousness on the screen perfectly and effectively. Coming to the story line the plot is somehow confusing before interval and loo breaking. So the story line need to be improved for presenting the movie more effectively before the audience. And last but not the least the climax and twisted point of the movie that is absolutely unpredictable. Earlier throughout the movie no can guess what is the suspense, but at the last moment irfan Khan's u turn is the icing on the cake and acting level of the support actor gajraj rao and om vaidya is very interesting and entertaining. So overall the movie is full of suspense, comedy and a complete entertaining package...
Comedy in movie is little different, (dark comedy) so if you can digest go for it, for others who don't like such comedy it up to you, in my opinion you should not go, Irfan Khan acting is awesome, story is good, songs are ok, one time watching movie
How far one can go to promote any product especially when it is about selling a toilet paper roll? It seems director Abhinay Deo knows it all especially when he is a film director and not a marketer. He forayed into Hindi films with Delhi Belly (2011) which was a laugh riot and easily an Aamir Khan’s brain child. With films like Game (2011) and Force 2 (2016) post that, Abhinay clearly misses out on making quality cinema. Known for choosing his film scripts wisely, Irrfan has no clue how the film will turn out be as ‘Blackmail’ is a big goof up on screen. Dev (Irrfan) blackmails his wife Reena (Kirti Kulhari) and her lover Ranjit (Arunoday Singh) after he catches them red handed in his bedroom. It becomes bad to worse when Dev tells his plan to his office colleague and the blackmailing goes haywire. In the meantime, Ranjit fools his wife Dolly (Divya Dutta), a rich, brash daughter of a local goon to pay the ransom amount to Dev. Will Reena and Ranjit be able to prove themselves innocent? Considering the trailer that was funny enough to tickle your funny bone, the movie is not even near to it. With all the unnecessary fillers in the film, endorsing a toilet paper is a no-brainer either. The male protagonist indulging into a masturbation act after every ten minute that has no relevance except for a full proof of his miserable sex life with his wife but film is about the blackmailing and not his sexual desires. Stealing photos of smiling women (even from the boss’s cabin) from colleagues’ desks isn’t a great deal! Hire a woman for this; it’s a legal act after all. A lousy boss played by Omi Vaidya overpowered the main premise and there is hardly any scope for the plot. In the name of intelligent comic drama influenced by western cinema, Abhinay Deo brings out his worst as a director. The pace of the film is slower than a tortoise, damn! The film promises no surprises except for the cringe worthy presentation of five odd people dealing with their own mess. Keeping the sensibilities of Indian masses in mind, Blackmail doesn’t even fit into that category too. ‘Humpty Dumpty had a great fall’!!! Thank god, they have a ‘Judwaa 2’ or a ‘Golmaal Again’ to fall back. However, the film zips through its constant compelling engaging story but it leaves you cheated in the end. You look for a clever twist but there is none! And yes, Bewafa Beauty does bewafaai too; wonder it is Urmila Matondkar’s come back after 10 long years. However, her item song forces the story to move forward but then where are her latkas and jhatkas that could have been the saving grace of this exceptionally boring film. Generally, Irrfan is the obvious asset in any film he does but Blackmail is too far from it. No matter, he is the master of his craft but in this one he is futile and not true to his character of a helpless husband. Blame it all on the fussy screenplay. Even a good actor like him couldn’t save the film. Kirti Kulhari is mildly good but her less screen time does enough damage. Seems like, Omi Vaidya is still in ‘3 Idiots’ hangover. His expressions and dialogue deliveries are replica of his previous performances including ‘Dil To Baccha Hai Ji’. Divya Dutta is lousy and has nothing much to do in the film except for spying her gold digger husband. Arunoday Singh is a ‘large’ actor with a ‘small’ acting. Pradhuman Singh and Anuja Sathe Gokhale are passable.
Irrfan Khan has pulled off this character with a straight face, like a bause. Kriti Kulhari slays as a not-interested-in-my-husband-because-I-am-having-an-affair housewife. Arunoday Singh has carried his character of a good-for-nothing bodybuilder who is unemployed and the only son-in-law in a rich family with such stupidity, it's perfect. All the other supporting cast has performed brilliantly too.
One of the few movies released this year which can be watched by whole family .
A typical irrfan khan film with some hilarious comedy. The movie revolves around irrfan khan how he gets into all sought of mess in his personal life with his wife and how he gets blackmailed by a person . It has some hilarious dialogues which will make you laugh out your heart. All the star cast played their parts beautifully but irrfan khan man you nailed your character absolutely superb sir. All in all a perfect family entertainer. I would give it a four star out of five.
blackmail movie is (Irrfan) is a toilet paper salesman. One evening he decides to spice up his otherwise mundane life and passionless marriage, by going home early from work with a bunch of roses for his wife. It turns out, that his wife is in bed with another man. This shocking revelation leads to a series of events which are both funny and outrageous. movi. and the acting was very amazing.
It was a so - so movie not so interesting but being a fan of Irfan Khan I went to see ....yeah the movie had thrill....action ....drama etc I hope after this movie Irfan works with a good named movie.....hope for the best ...if the second part of this movie releases I want to see the improvements in the movie
Dev is a toilet paper salesman. One evening he decides to spice up his otherwise mundance life and passionless marriage , by going home early from work with a bunch of roses for his wife. It turns out that his wife is in bed with the other man. This shocking relations leads to a series of events which are both funny amd outrageous . The middle class man is a victim of his own circumstances. He lives a life of submission so much so that when presented with the situation of conflict like Dev is struggles to commit a prime of passion. He resigns to his fate. Or so it would seem. Blackmail takes its concept and gives it oproariously good twist. After all it is good movie... Thumbs up.
An average middle class man reaches home early one day to find the wife with another man in the bed. Instead of confronting them, he decides to blackmail them, triggering a chain of blackmailing scenarios and subsequent hilarious situations. Irrfan plays the protagonist Dev Kaushal while Kirti is his wife and Arunoday Singh essays her boyfriend’s role. Except for a few, most twists in the plot of Blackmail are unexpected and keep up with the mood of suspense even as the characters tickle our funny bone with their situational comedy
The ‘blackmail’ referred to in the title of Irrfan Khan’s new film doesn’t point to merely one instance of extortion, but in fact a whole chain of cash extraction by arm-twisting. Chances are you probably figured that out from watching the film’s trailer, which, frankly, gives away a lot more than it should.
