Prateek posted a review for Arjun Patiala in Movies
Arjun isn’t a real person, nor is Sharma’s Onidda (named after the television model) or Kriti Sanon’s investigative journalist Ritu (the movie’s biggest joke). They are characters in a film within the film that is being narrated by an aspiring director to a producer. Why bother telling me about the script, asks the producer, played by Pankaj Tripathi. I have been making films for three generations and have never once heard a script. Finally, a good joke that isn’t in the trailer. After all has been done, and Dosanjh’s Arjun Patiala has cleansed his precinct of criminals by setting them up against each other and waltzed off into a paratha-shaped sunset with Sanon’s Ritu, the producer’s assistant asks, will it work? Not on the strength of the humour, of which there isn’t enough for even a 106-minute movie. In trying to send up Bollywood cliches, Arjun Patiala becomes yet another Bollywood cliche itself. Arjun Patiala has some good jokes – but half of them were in the trailer. What’s left? Punjabi star Diljit Dosanjh is his usual pleasant self as he attempts yet again to broaden his base and convince Hindi audiences of his low-key charm. Dosanjh doesn’t set the screen on fire in his films but he never leaves it in tatters either. He is nicely cast as the titular hero, who dreams of joining the Punjab Police and manages to get in on a sports quota. There’s little else to recommend in Rohit Jugraj’s film, written by Ritesh Shah and Sandeep Leyzell. Varun Sharma’s comic timing is spot-on but overly familiar. Take him out of this movie and put him in another and you wouldn’t get anything different. Meanwhile, the other prominent cast members, Ronit Roy, Seema Pahwa, and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, have little to do. The first half of the movie is entertaining but the second half is worse than ever Parental Advisory : not needed

Prateek posted a review for Judgementall Hai Kya in Movies
Judgementall Hai Kya’ Movie Review: A mind-bending and thrilling film that presents male violence against women with a whole new approach. The two main characters in the film are Bobby (Kangana Ranaut) and Keshav (Rajkummar Rao). Bobby has a mental disorder called “acute psychosis” as a doctor explains in the film. Bobby’s so-called boyfriend, Varun (Hussain Dalal), explains, in layman’s terms, that she has “complexes” in her mind. Ever since she was a small girl, she has shown particular attention towards helpless women being bogged down by men’s brutality. It is this propensity towards women’s sufferings that makes her collect newspaper clippings on such news and make origami out of them. She winds up meeting Keshav as he, along with his wife (played by Amyra Dastur whose sensual scenes, in particular, with Rajkummar Rao were outstanding), rent a house of which Bobby is the landlord. Keshav’s character doesn’t give you a clear perception of what he’s like. Sometimes he is shown to be a good husband who is affectionate towards his wife. But you also get to see him doing peculiar things, which even Bobby notices, and make you believe he might not be a good person and hiding a villainous side of him. Things start turning topsy-turvy when Bobby gets “obsessed” with Keshav. She not only develops a feeling of lust towards Keshav but also gathers doubts if he’s intending to kill his wife. The film, then, leaves you startled, as the events that follow tests your ability to guess who’s the killer and who’s the saviour. Well, the credit goes to Kanika Dhillon’s fantastic writing, of course, for lending the film this absolute power of surprising you at all instances and never allowing you to settle down or have a sigh of relief. You always juggle between your assumptions based on different evidence that the film produces at every stage. After a while, you acquiesce to the brilliance of Dhillon’s superlative writing and allow the film to unfurl the answers to your questions all by itself. In short, just let Bobby do the judgement. The amazing background score and the horror-film-like feel makes the film even more thrilling... #JudgementallHaiKya

Prateek posted a review for The Lion King in Movies
If you‘re one of the people who watched The Lion King as a kid and cried when Mufasa died, don’t be disappointed with the movie if you don’t tear up this time on same scene. We’ve grown up, life has taken a toll, emotions aren’t as pure now, they’ve worn out. Movie is still same. It doesn’t seem right to describe this as "live action", when the visuals were created in the London offices of visual effects wizards MPC. Whatever its category, the immediate and overwhelming impression is so life-like that you expect David Attenborough to start narrating at any moment. Every hair and whisker is in place, every footprint raises a puff of dust. Sometimes, the graphics look so good that your brain struggles to make sense of why they don’t look better (Pride Rock, we learn, is located deep inside the uncanny valley). Other times, the animals are constrained by the boundaries of verisimilitude; forget the original’s Busby Berkeley-like choreography of “I Just Can’t Wait to be King” or the unbridled expressionism of “Hakuna Matata,” because all these hyper-realistic animals can do is walk around their drab environments and fall over each other. (Don’t ask how Zazu the hornbill can speak the Queen’s English even though his beak only moves up and down.) This movie is entertainment bliss for everyone. Overall rating 4.5/5 Story line could have been improved. Parental Guidance : Not at all

Prateek posted a review for Super 30 in Movies
‘Super 30’ Movie Review: A great start and a dumb finish to an extraordinary story. The very first thing that captivates you in Director Vikas Bahl’s Super 30 is the background score from the duo of Ajay-Atul. The alluring and tuneful composition can make you fall in love with it instantly and you will find yourself swaying involuntarily as if the sound waves have got you under their control. Super 30 begins with the romantic side of the story. As Anand Kumar (Hrithik Roshan’s exemplary performance keeps you engrossed) comes to see Ritu (Mrunal Thakur leaves her mark in a short spell), who is taking her Indian classical dance lessons, Ajay-Atul’s score in the background mesmerises you. The love angle seems to be attracting your attention as the nerdy Anand gives a love letter containing binary numbers to the ravishing Ritu. There’s an abrupt change in the narrative as the romance, that was building up between Anand and Ritu for a brief period, gives way to the more important matter at hand – which is the struggle of Anand Kumar and his perseverance towards assisting poor children to crack the most sought after engineering entrance exam in India. But this sudden change in the plot and its failure in registering the strong bond between Anand and Ritu keeps you wanting for more and you don’t feel for their separation. Anand Kumar, a real-life hero, on whom the movie is based, is lauded for his magnificent efforts towards bringing change, educating and preparing 30 poor kids every year for free of cost to help them get into Indian Institute of Technology. It’s the tough times that the movie focuses more upon. Written by Sanjeev Dutta, the film does engage you for the most part but loses its sheen in the second half... #Super30 Overall rating : 3/5 Parental guidance: Not required

Prateek posted a review for Spider-Man: Far from Home in Movies
No spoilers. I always expected Spiderman far from home to be good but homecoming level good, which was itself a small scale film compared to all the events that was happening at that time. But Far from home exceeded all my expectations. I didn't think it would be so good. It's a perfect follow up to the legacy of iron man and who will sit on his throne but also shows how different Peter and Tony are. Pass (might be spoiler) . The post credit scene exactly is a mirror replica to an Original Iron man scene but as mirror shows, inverted reasons. Also a fan favourite character is back. I liked the movie, not like the best or one of the best. A perfect movie after End game with Ironman hangover. Mid & Post scenes are probably the best till now for me. With Tom Holland as Peter Parker and Spider-Man the whole movie is pretty funny and engaging, I love the Iron-Man and Spider-Man connections, but I hope they don't repeat it again.
