Anand posted a review for Kesari in Movies
It is the story of the last stand of brave 21 Sikh soldiers against 10000 Afghans. Here are seven reasons why I loved Kesari and why you will love it too. 1) Its history that matters - growing up in school, I was always learning the history of rulers who had abused there power for self aggrandisement. Yet, the real history of our brave heroes and martyrs could only be heard through folklores and anecdotes. Hence, I was pleasantly surprised when Bollywood offered a biopic based on my childhood heroes “the martyrs of Saragrahi”. 2) Its honest - The invaders from the western boarders to India came as savages and barbarians. They were responsible for countless genocides and destructions of cultural establishments like the universities of Nalanda etc. invaders like Gazni and Timur were known sadists that derived pleasure from great human suffering. Timur alone was responsible for executing a hundred thousand captives. The movie has no qualms in showing depravity of the antagonist in the film. The movie also sheds light on how religious thoughts can be used to promote political propaganda 3) It shows the weakness of our heroes - Legend tells that heroes like Bhishma Pitamah were unbeatable in a fair fight. Hence, Shikandi was used as a shield to obtain victory. The biggest failings of our heroes were their uncompromising belief on their moral code. A huge weakness that can be exploited if the enemy is willing to cheat. Something that is perfectly portrayed when our heroes are unwilling to harm children. Tools used to subdue them. 4) Realistic action - As a martial artist, I was amazed on how realistically the action is portrayed, From the sword fight to the use of chakram. The film doesn’t unnecessarily give our heroes superhuman abilities but show the actual rawness of hand to hand combat as the battle deteriorates from shooting to bayonet melees. It is a story of the last stand of martyrs and the movie does justice to their bravery. 5) Emotional touch - The film beautifully captures a soldier's attachment to their family and the love stories portrayed touch your heart. It could be the love of a soldier with its infant child or a son missing his mother or Akshay Kumar's commendable portrayal of Ishar Singh missing his wife. 6) heart touching music - I have to say I was scared going into the cinema as in the film promotions songs like “menu kendo” were heavily promoted. I wondered how I could see my heroes dancing to such vague tunes, yet the editors did a great job in editing out all unwanted music. Tracks like "Deh Shiva" by Sukwinder Singh and "Jasleen Royal, and Ek Onkaar by Jassi are sure to induce goosebumps. 7) It is an homage to our ancestors - Though the movie has a mammoth run time. I had fun and appreciated the characters of Ishar Singh and Gurumukh Singh. The most amazing thing being how true the director kept the story to historical events. From the politics at fort Lockhart and fort Gulistan to the battle cries of Shahid Gurumukh Singh as he was burnt alive in his signalling post are all facts that can be easily verified by anyone with a phone and internet. In the end if you know about the 300 Spartans last stand and not about the glory of 21 Sikhs, Kesari is a must watch. God bless Akshay Kumar with health, wealth and happiness so he may continue to be a raconteur of our rich history.

Anand posted a review for Captain Marvel in Movies
The movie was fun. Though it's far from being the best MCU movie. Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel had been promoted as the most powerfull super hero, and indeed the movie reveals her to be very powerfull. The supporting cast especially Sam Jackson's Nick Fury has done a great job. The visuals were great, humor was well placed, and twists were good too. Overall its was an entertaining and fun movie. One issue which I found with the movie was that the character of Captain Marvel didn't get a challenging opponent through which she could grow. She just seemed to be too powerfull to defeat and in all her glory took down her enemies. This does make you appreciate the strength of our Super Hero, but fails to make you emotionally ground for her as her high levels super power makes her victory too obvious. Now coming to her role in Avengers Endgame, I really hope that Marvel doesn't endup making the same mistake DC did in Justice League, where our superheroes struggled hard to beat the villain without much success until Superman showed up and with ease, defeated the bad guys. That act just made the presence and struggle for all the others super heroes feel unnecessary making it a one man show. Avengers Endgame is the culmination of a journey which began 11 years ago with Iron Man movie. Since then, we watched our beloved heroes develop and grow and established an emotional connect with them. Their failure and loss in Avengers Infinity war makes it all the more important that they hold the privilege and the right to set things back to order and avenge the terrible massacre. Though Captain Marvel is extremely powerful, she should act as a surplus for the surviving heroes in their battle against Thanos, and not the star of the show who just comes and takes down the mighty Thanos just to earn the title of being most powerfull. It should not become her movie, she can be the a very powerful supporting character, but not the key to defeat Thanos. My rating for Captain Marvel is 3.5 it of 5 stars. And for me, the show stealer is Goose The Cat!

Anand posted a review for Deadpool 2 in Movies
DEADPOOL was an awesome superhero film which opened an undisclosed chapter for R-rated superhero cinema. It did that so masterfully that upon watching it, I became an instant fan of DEADPOOL. I was very excited when I came to hear of DEADPOOL 2 and since the trailer excited me even more, I decided to watch it in theatre. It's also the first time I've seen an A rated film in theatre. But I'm already above 18, and thus it's not a problem. DEADPOOL 2 is just mindblowing and even outdoes the prequel at times. Although DEADPOOL had its own classic moments worth remembering forever, DEADPOOL 2 blends action, comedy and even some drama to deliver a perfect and even better R-rated summer blockbuster. I was quite surprised but also very happy to find that the Indian Censor Board didn't make any major cuts (which it made in the prequel) and most of the cuss words and gory action sequences are retained. I was very happy to get DEADPOOL in his nearly full, uncut form. The action in DEADPOOL is excellent, wonderful, spectacular and "Marvel"lous. Each and every action sequence works, especially the final block. The visual effects are quite top notch and the visual quality of the film is a reason enough to experience it in IMAX. Even though it wasn't in 3D, I really loved the IMAX experience. Another great thing is that this time there is nothing much of the R-level except the violence and language. That, somewhat made me happy too. The film comes with a lot of crowdpleasing moments as well. The comedy in the film is totally effective and works in every single way. Right from the very first scene to the last, the film makes sure you laugh out loud. The very last scene had the entire audience laughing out loud. Plus, this time it's hard to call DEADPOOL as an antihero. He does feel bigger and a better superhero than ever before, this time. Ryan Reynolds is one of the biggest reasons why each and everything works so smoothly. To play a character of this kind balancing both its violent and funny alter egos is not that easy. He has done it with extreme sincerity. Josh Brolin is super impressive as Cable after playing Thanos brilliantly in the awesome and mindblowing INFINITY WAR. Zazie Beetz impresses as Domino, while the rest of the actors including Brianna Hildebrand, Julian Dennison, Morena Baccarin, and the ever-lovable Karan Soni do a splendid job. To say that DEADPOOL 2 is just an entertainer would be an understatement. It makes sure you remember it even after you've left your seat, and also in a way succeeds to put the thought of collecting it upon digital release, in your mind as well. It's the best superhero film of the year after INFINITY WAR. [P.S. To all the Indian audiences, please watch the film in English for the best and most original experience.] 5/5 stars.

Anand posted a review for Avengers: Infinity War in Movies
AVENGERS:INFINITY WAR,to say in one line,is perfectly balanced as all things should be.It was the most anticipated movie of the decade, and it had to deliver what seemed impossible-bringing together two dozen superheroes, combining plot threads from the previous 18 films, introducing the biggest villain onscreen and perfectly balancing humor with emotions and action with drama-all in a single film-and the russos nailed it....Mild Spoilers follows... The main attraction of the film ,is no doubt the Mad Titan. Thanos is not your usual villain. He is complex and multi-dimensional.He is cruel, ruthless, kills but at the same time, he mourns, shows compassion, and above all-he has a reason for his actions-and that's what makes him the most interesting and dangerous villain. He gets the most screen time than any other hero...It is as if he is the central character. Its as if we are following his journey of collecting the six infinity stones so that he can destroy half the universe. He wants to wipe out half of the universe, not because he sees fun in it nor he wants to rule. All he wants is to achieve balance in the universe.According to him if the universe is left unchecked, then the universe might destroy itself due to overpopulation. He wants to do this action so that the other half and the future generations can thrive....he describes it as mercy. Along with him ,the film also gave us sidekick antagonists in the form of black order.Among them,Ebony maw was cool to watch. The actions and choreography were amazing. If you thought the actions in the trailers were awesome,o boy...u aint seen nothing. The people behind the camera ..they did a fantastic job.The art work was good ...and the cgi and vfx looked realistic. They did a remarkable job in capturing all the facial expressions in josh brolins face. Nothing to say about screenplay...its just ....I cant imagine how they delivered it ..and like a star wars movie we got to see different parts of the galaxy-From the sanctum sanctorum to New avengers facility. From wakanda to New york. from Nevidilir to knowhere and from vormir to titan and finally to wakanda...The shifting of story from one scene to another scene and location without confusing the plot was executed perfectly. The dialogues were sensible..and the film is filled with lots of pretty and punchy one liners that will fill you with laughter, and some that will make you emotional. The character interactions...well this was what we wanted to see more than anything...and trust me ,the russo brothers delivered more than what we expected. Not only that, the film gives adequate time for characters to grow and develop in such a short time frame that you feel for each and every character ...its a treat for those who have followed all mcu films and had made the characters part of their life.....the interaction between these different characters is what makes this film unique.....there are reunions...there are first meetings..the plot is written as such that each and every character is vital to the story... The guardians get a lot of screen time...and Thor-guardians interactions are one of the best and most entertaining moments in the film .The trio formed by dr strange, peter parker and tony stark was also very amazing..The first meeting between earths mightiest heroes and the guardians of the galaxy is very funny ...The thanos-gamora relationship is very well explored ..the film also gives ample time to vision-scarlett witch romance that was teased in the trailers... captain america has a grand entry ..we get to see black panther...bruce banner ..o well he has his own arc in the film and is funny.. and so on... Its the darkest and most emotional movie in the franchise..as the first scene itself sets the tone for the entire film. The stakes are higher than ever and the ENDING will just make you numb .Its not just a superhero movie..Its a movie about love, relationship, sacrifice and above all asks a moral question- "under what condition is it just to trade one innocent life to save others".
