First thing I want to say it's going to be one of my favourite dialogue "Just a slap, but nehi maar sakta."
As the name suggests this is the slap on society the values with which we are living. It starts with an orange ice candy and travels across different class of people and how one slap changes their lives.
But here I don't agree with one point of the film "Divorce".
Yes, I agree one slap is also not allowed but for one slap kill a relationship is also not justified. For me, it's like the character Amrita is running from the situation instead of fight. There is a lot of ways to face this situation and make her husband understand how wrong he was. If we start brake all relation just because a slap (I am not supporting any domestic violence, no one have any rights to torture anyone) then one day we will be alone at the end. If someone hurt us it's our duty to make them realise their mistake, brake a relation comes at the end, where no hope alive.
The story takes time to grow and the base is created with a beautifully crafted screenplay with fine details of daily life. How the tea is made in high class or low-class homes but tastes the same. At first, the movie goes noiseless and slow to build the narrative. Activities of daily life are repetitive but show the commitment and sacrifices one does for others to keep happy.
As Director Anubhav Sinha did a brilliant job, portray the story nicely.
Especially the shadow storey of Amrita'S Neighbour, The housemaid and advocate are beautifully portrayed.
The story of four different couples are so easily merged that you realise that problems are in every level of society.
As Actor Taapsee Pannu, Tanvi Azmi, Ratna Pathak Shah, Ram Kapoor did justice to their respective characters.
Music goes with the story but not up to the mark.
The screenplay is good and detailed.
Some dialogues are good and hit you.
Overall the movie is worth a watch. But don't take a decision of DIVORCE or Don't brake a Relation in a small conflict situation.
Relation relays on Faith, Love, Care, Sacrifice and by Giving another Chance.
This Film gives a wrong message to the Society

This movie tells us all about some or most people living in a marriage, where always a wife has to sacrifices her dreams, her passion, her career and sometimes her self-respect too, but not any more. Movie, In which a highly Educated Girl, marry any High class rich Man, who works too much hard to achieve a big position in company and want to settle down in London with wife in New branch of his office, and due to corporate polities his dream of Owing a branch in London, became a dream itself and in aggression he slaps her lovely wife. Movie, tells us about a strong bonding of Father and Daughter Relationship, for an example- If daughter is suffering from stomach pain in childhood, father was suffering from fever, by taking stress of your lovely daughter. Role of tapsee pannu's father was amazing done by kumud mishra.

I’m going with four out of five for Thappad. It’s a hard subject to pull off, but Anubhav Sinha achieves it with first-rate storytelling. The best films inspire dialogue, they set you thinking; they can even lead to change. This one made me uncomfortable; it made me question myself and I think it will make you too. It’s essential viewing.

Thappad is a simple story of an upper-middle-class couple based in Delhi. The wife is questioning if it is okay for her husband to slap her, even if it is a one-off case. But Thappad doesn’t leave it to just a question. At the core of the story is a human being’s ego, gender irrelevant here. Anubhav Sinha lends a certain subtlety to the film that a film like this needed. And given how lost subtlety is in Hindi cinema Thappad hits you like that very slap that snapped Taapsee’s Amrita back into consciousness.

The logic behind this one word Thappad was absolutely and perfectly shown by director. Self esteem of housewives are ruined since long. Not only there are exploited even working women also fall prey of the complexities created by our so called mothers and mothers in law of this so called civilised society. The scenario should be changed by us by teaching our sons to value and protect the self esteem of girls, sisters or their counterparts. Taapsee did a great job as usual. Must watch !

This is probably the best acting display by Tapassee Pannu in her career. It will spark off discussions in every family that goes to watch it. I hope she gets a National Award for her role in Thappad where she shows that one can make a point very emphatically without going into high decibels. A must watch for mothers and mothers in law who have brain washed their daughters into submissiveness and loss of self worth after marriage.

Great movie. well made and proves it's point that a man doesn't have a right to raise his hand on a woman even if they are married couple. Fine performances by the lead pair of Tapsee and newcomer Pavail Gulati and also the supporting cast is good. Good direction by Anubhav Sinha.

The topic discussed in Thappad is the need of the hour! It's not just about one slap but it's about how that one slap changed the lives of Amrutha and everyone connected to her. Amrutha got slapped once but in a parallel story her maid Sunitha is getting abused and beaten up daily by her drunk husband. There are 4 beautiful parallel stories in thappad that discuss about different issues about male patriarchal society - be it,the lawyer story or the neighbor Diya who is a widow or the maid Sunitha story deals great with the emotions. Dialogues are great and for me the charActer which made an impact was the Amrutha's father role and his poems. Overall a great movie and thanks to anubav Sinha for directing the realistic and important movies and Taapsee for choosing scripts like these. Highly recommended! 5/5

There really isn't a negative side to this film. The story is simple yet gripping, the characters are well written and the storyline is superb. Not to mention the acting is beautiful and so authentic. The ratings may be low on this one because the Indian audience may not be ready to face a movie which is so real and raw and depicts what happens behind the closed doors of almost every Indian household. Abuse is so normalised in our country, it's appalling how much we accept this as a norm instead of an offence. Tapsee pannu's acting was too strong and fabulous.

This movie is a big milestone in Indian cinema. I think all women should do a favor and watch this movie. Respect is the foundation of all relationships. Where there is no respect, there is no relationship. I love the story of the movie. I love the fact that the protagonist, Amrita, gives divorce even when she is pregnant. It's such an important message that self-respect always comes first. Sometimes doing the right thing is hard and painful, but it's much better to do that than to succumb to situations. I love the way Amrita faces the situation and stands up for herself. It's also refreshing to see that it's not a male-bashing movie completely alienating men from the conversation. It has a strong message that women also perpetuate misogyny. Great acting by everyone in the movie, great direction, great dialogues, great screenplay.

THAPPAD is not just a movie but something that's very real. All the actors have showcased us reality of our society. I would like to appreciate Anubhav Sinha for presenting such a wonderful story to us. The movie is not an anti-male movie. It's written from women's perspective. The film succeeded in telling the audience that a woman can never take any violence like that. Even in our homes our mother face such issues then she might not react but it's visible that that very action has hurt her self-respect. For all the men especially, a wife has left her home and has come to your house to make your life better. Acting is top notch. Music suits the mood of the movie. The side stories are equally interesting, making it a great watch.

Thappad is not just a movie it is a mirror that showcases the patriarchal society and its existence at different levels. We often feel the uneducated females are the victims of this abuse and dominance where the matter of the fact is people living in high society, driving expensive cars too get victimised by the substandard men. Though it is a story of a female protagonist but it largely shows different layers of men. A supportive father, a not so supportive husband and few others who are given the hot seat. I ask this question, who gave them this authority? We, women. Yes, its us who gave them this power to dominate and raise our sons to be the king and teach our daughters to be humble but we forget to teach both that we are equal, we are the same. Each and every character has nailed their part.

Story line is very well understood from the trailer itself. This is a bit slow but somehow keep viewer engage throughout till ending. All actors played well their character and Taapsee is very good. The only part in the movie I have realized could be better if the script has some more past incidents of relationship problem between the couple like indecent behavior of husband. Every relation goes through rough phases practically, but we need to find out the solution and breaking up is not a good choice. We all learn to be patient from childhood, I am not saying that domestic violence can be justified in any manner, but one should understand the delicacy of the relations. Marriage is not a relation between two, it is a bond between two families. If we find some faults and flaws in partner one need to give chance to improve and overcome with negatives with the help of family. I liked the performances and story line could be little better.

Outstanding portrayal of a very difficult subject done superbly by Mr. Sinha. Very deep rooted question about the woman who is considered the pillar of the household...the one who keeps the family intact. It’s time the matriarchal societies of countries like India move on to embrace the entity of the woman, the wife in the household...she is not just a donkey bringing home the money and cooking and working seven days week or a doormat without feelings and pride. This movie portrays a societal problem which needs to change if we are to flourish and see our kids do better than we did as human beings. Mr. Sinha intertwined the characters extremely well and how each woman character derives strength from the defiance of one. Additionally the performances of every single. character were outstanding! Superb again.

Movie is a real slap on society socio moral set up where marriage is looked as a sacred bond between two souls who decides to spend their life together. Modern day society that is already struggling to keep up with changing values and times will find little to wrap their head around extremely bold, senseless, egoistic and revengeful feminist character. The new avatar of modern Indian women is bit too far stretched from reality and family driven society. A slap becomes reason for divorce that too when Taapsee pannu (protagonist) discovers that she is pregnant. What amuses here truly is that she receives full and unconditional support from parents with some apprehensions from mother though overall it seems that they are in support of her decision to desert her husband.

The movie is slow paced during the first half to make the audience understand how mundane is a housewife's chores and how she would never complain even if it means living just for her partner's dreams! The curio "Just for a single Thappad" gets convincing along the flow. All the characters have been beautifully penned. A breath taking performance by Geetika Vidya , who plays the honest & dignified domestic help is commendable. Short of words to appreciate it. A successful lawyer yet an unhappy wife due to her dogmatic husband is an another beautifully portrayed character by Maya Sarao. Tanvi Azmi and Ratna Pathak Shah do immense justice to the characters of yesteryear's quintessential housewives who perceived that giving up their wishes is the sole way to keep the happiness of their families intact. A contemporary strong woman who is yet forgiving is well justified by Naila Grewal.

As a man, I wanna say movies like this are very important to show that it's not okay for men to treat their other halves in a disrespectful manner. Thappad shows what women go through in this society and are too pious and scared to lose the family that they do nothing about it. The events shown in this movie is what a women needs to do after being treated like a garbage by their spouse . I wanna say thank you to the entire team for making a movie like this.

This movie has great performances by all the cast. Background score is silent and compliments the atmosphere this movie tries to create. Dialogues are very well written and have a kind of punch in them. Every character is well defined throughout the movie and you understand where they are coming from. Second half kind of drifts apart for few moments could have been used to tie up all the ends in a better way. This movie does make you upset during a lot of times and I think that's the biggest strength of this movie. By no means it demonises the male counterpart but it's a solid punch to our society. Ending was superb.

This movie rips your heart apart and makes you feel guilty. It's a big thappad on patriarchy and that's why many are not able to digest the film and because of which many are trolling it unnecessarily. Infact the husband was never potrayed as an extreme antagonistic villain or anything. He was just a regular Indian guy. So no, this film is not a man hating film. Please watch this film with your family and I can assure you that you'll have insightful conversations and thoughts post watching it.

Movie is good, decent watch but somewhere along the line it may fail to keep the audience attention.Multiple stories linked someway but Taapsee being at the forefront, movie somehow has crushed other parallel stories into one movie.Somewhere switching the stories along the way may not add upto what the intention would have been. that is such things happen in most houses. but some may not be physical ( lawyer story ). Somewhere I believe we also did fall short on acting some lead actors part and screenplay at times. sometimes I wonder someone who loves one so much and form affluent family ends up marrying his love of life slaps and never apologises. I mean frankly something doesn't go with the character that they have built .

I'm mighty impressed with the maturity and subtlety with which the director has handled this flick . Hats off to Anubhav Sinha !!! It depicts the mundane life of a upper middle class housewife portrayed beyond brilliantly by Taapsee Pannu ..... she is so much invested in her husbands' career goals that it feels like they are a team , UNTIL.... the "THAPPAD" happens !!!! Amrita's world is stunned , she is shattered but manages to compose herself (brilliant display of restrain in acting ) .... this movie is way much more than just a slap .... special mention for the director to intertwine several stories seamlessly into one .... each and every actor has done a fantabulous job.... leading from the front is Taapsee Pannu , followed closely by the lawyer Nethra (confident and REAL) , the Maid (REAL REAL REAL) , The Sister in Law (supportive ) , the Elderly ladies (Mother and Mother in law ) are adequate too..... The interesting aspect is the portrayal of Amrita's father , although he thinks he is very progressive and supporting his daughter all along , BUT , he is shown a mirror by his wife (The outstanding Ratna Pathak) and shown his real patriarchal face . I simply love the film for the brilliant and nuanced performances . A must watch for lovers of the slow burn , food for thought and meaningful , mature cinema .

Just for a slap you need the divorce ? Asks the defence lawyer to Amrita. Clear in her future course of action, Amrita says the impact was much more than a thappad (slap). That single line sums up the determination of the lead character of the movie. The movie may not have worked a decade or so. But in an era where marriage is not seen as an institution but only a conscience, it could strike a cord all over. Women are known to bear the pains of child marriage and what is the mere slap? could well be the question. Tapsee Pannu proves with her steller act that the woman will not be at the receiving end of a thappad and why it's not just a slap. Tapsee standing tall at the face of the advices pouring in from all quarters is the defining moment of the movie.

Is this a wonderful story? I think so. But others who have seen the movie want to know what their views are right now. Director Anubhav Sinha made this movie with a lot of effort. Amrita's role in the movie is as good as it is. At a party, the husband slaps his wife and the story unfolds. In this society, the director wanted to relate his story about the relationship between husband and wife as it should be. In the story, the director wisely wants to show the domestic violence between both genders. I like Jim Taapsee Pannu's acting. There is nothing at this movie brings that is worth sitting through 140 mins. I'm not quite sure what Taapsee Pannu's character is supposed to be she walks around like she's got some lame legs and she cannot walk normally and if you watch closely you see her constantly smirking and laughing at her own stupid lines. For All those who expect Masala, item numbers and double meaning jokes please stay away. It's a meaningful cinema and we hardly get 1 or 2 such films every year. Tapsee and Anubhav along with all the characters have done a great job. It shows how respect matters for each one of us in different ways. It shows the true face of the society we live in and what our sisters, mothers go through every day just to make their family happy at the cost of her own dreams. I guess the last movie which gave us a learning was Tumbad! Please go watch it! Such movies with genuine subjects are rare.

This one hits the right cords in so many ways.. Little does it starts with a housewife's routine to one that strives hard for her own self respect and happiness..so thought provoking at various levels..A movie that binds a different story for relationships but a common message to weave the purpose..How Impactfully have they highlighted that unknowingly we as women be it a mother, sister, wife end up sacrificing those little things as we get to a society and while we are in relationship..A brilliant touchdown to all of it...Do watch..!! Dialogues are heart touching and bang on..so much violent could this topic could have been but the story just so beautifully simplifies its journey to the end...

Director Anubhav Sinha’s ‘Thappad’ begins on a sweet, comforting note of an idyllic couple Amrita and Vikram (Pannu and Gulati) who have embraced each other and have this covetable rhythm they enjoy. Just like that simmering ginger black tea that Amrita enjoys every morning, this couple seems aspirational and absolutely lovely. But cracks in their relationship appear when Gulati loses his temper at a party and slaps his wife. Their bond unravels rapidly following that swift violent action as Amrita re-examines her relationship with her affable husband and the unspoken power equations between them. It’s a searing relationship drama that’s gut wrenchingly sensitive, personal and sad. It gets nasty, but never vitriolic. This film is all heart and human frailty.

A big applause to the makers of the film. I couldn't have been more grateful for watching the movie. All the actord have done a great job. It's good to see the subtle yet powerful court drama. Thank You Anubhav Sir for making us realize that not all divorce battles or court drama are suppose to be brutal and dirty. I urge everyone who is reading this review to kindly make an effort and watch the movie. It is definitely worth watching rather I would prefer watching it again. One slap is also not okay. You cannot justify violence by stating 'it's expression of love'. You are frustrated, irritated, agitated or any other negative emotions you are dealing with you have no right to abuse your partner or anyone for that matter. If we are angry with our parents or are having differences with them we never abuse them. So exactly on what grounds do people have the right to abuse their partners? Thappad focuses on the aspect of domestic violence but what is more commendable is the way the topic is dealt in. It shows the lives of 4 different women who are related to each other and their relationships with their spouses. I do not want to give a way the spoilers, so I am literally trying hard to not reveal the story. This movie does struck you hard especially if you have been through certain things.Honestly, there is so much inside me right now but I hope I was able to express enough about the movie. I hope after watching this movie, people who have been in a toxic relationships stand up for themselves and their respect.

How could one slap turn lives upside down? Well, it was never about that slap. People fight all the time but they have the willingness to correct the situation, accept the responsibility. But why still it didn't work out here? The reason lies deep down under a shiny surface. If you don't realise these patterns, then it's just a matter of time. Even in case of a perfect healthy family, small routines, events are subconsciously being ignored or taken as granted. When it's about two people, let alone a family, everyone is different in a unique way yet they try to coexist. It definitely involves compromises, mutual help and understanding. Now this is most important and interesting. So if we don't balance out the activity, it will create a gap and will start to be perceived as someone's life is there just to make your's better, which is unfortunately most occurring household situation in India. Maybe because the mindset is set well before our time period and it's being passed on. In any case, things can and should change. In a perfect balanced life, share time, work, interest, be appreciative of any help you get, respect others and treat them well. At end, stay happy. And if you haven't watched movie - Thappad, go and watch it. Little slow but worth it.

Thappad Ground Breaking Cinema , touches you deep inside your Heart - 3.5 Star It rests all the taboo about women in peace ,This is a meaningful film with a strong and powerful message that its not right to raise your hand on a women even if its for the first time or whatsoever .The pace of the film is quite slow and could seem a bit exhausting but this is a kind of a film where you cant expect masala elements its straight to the point and fulfils the purpose by its end. The Direction is great , acting is powerful, the film has a point ,Only minor flaw is the length of the film which could have been a bit shorter and crispier to make it more engaging. But still the film deserves utmost respect for exploring a topic that was much needed . Overall a complete worth watch in the cinemas and has a take away message that's very very important . THINGS TO LOOK OUT FOR >The Plot, script and the way its presented is powerful and thought provoking >The Direction is super solid and the film serves its purpose >There is very strong message for the society by the end the film touches your heart >The Lead character played by Tapsee Pannu is natural and to her best >The Dialogues are witty and spot on and add immense power to the character and the film all-together NEGATIVES >The length of the film is a issue as it seems prolonged specially in the 2nd half , the film could have been easily trimmed and stripped down to 2 hours instead of 2.5 hrs >The screenplay at points feels a bit repetitive again the length of the write up could have avoided this flaw FINAL VERDICT It is a film worth watching and every one needs to watch this movie as the message in the movie is the need of the hour for the society to go back with a message that's very important .

Whatever i am writing may look like patriarchal. Please don't take it otherwise. Today I went to see movie THAPPAD. And i realized all the male characters in movie are incorrect all. Even Tapasi Pannu's father, whom movie shows as a genuine person, but he also was on fault because he never requested his wife to sing. Tapsi's Father in law, Brother in law, Husband, brother every body was wrong. Tapasi's husband slapped him in a situation when he was drunk, shattered and in a brawl with his Boss due to durty corporate politics. At that particular time Tapsi tried to pull him forcefully from the scene and in that friction He slapped her. OK WRONG WRONG WRONG. But can't it be solved by any other way except devorce breaking the family? Tapsi's brother's fionce (Not wife / neither family yet) was intervening into there family matter and taking things aggressively to facilitate Tapasi for divorce. His brother objected and told her to be out of this matter. Which was normal as per our society. But in movie he was proven as villainous. In other hand the female lawyer used his friend (hiding relation from her husband) for all the mental support, chat, fun etc.... Dumped him only by saying that she wants to start fresh. I respect self esteem from cour of my heart of every human being Male or Female, Rich or poor ..... but at what cost. At the moment of heat things happen. But it's upto a person how to handle the situation. One side is to end everything And otherside try to compromise I dont know i might be absolutely wrong. But i think i am confused. All i want to say that breaking of the family is very painful.

Thappad makes a very important comment and thankfully the makers execute it very well. It's a risk to make a film of this sort that too in this country where domestic violence is common and even accepted by both genders. And yet, this film dares to say that 'just one slap'is not okay! Director and writers come out with flying colors as they throw scenes at the viewers that will definitely make them uncomfortable and reflect on their own wrongdoings. And thankfully, it doesn't come across and 'anti-man'venture as it achieves a balance seamlessly. On the flip side, the second half is a bit dragging. Most subplots are nicely woven with the film but it's one too many at times and just added additional layers to the film needlessly. Talking of performances, this is Taapsee Pannu's best Hindi performance till date! She has the image of a firebrand but in Thappad, she successfully convinces audiences as she plays a docile housewife whose life revolves around her husband and his aspirations. Pavail Gulati is well - casted and fits the part. His climax is brilliant. Maya Sarao (lawyer) is an actor to watch out for. Geetika Vidya, who rocked the show in Soni, gives an equally effective performance as the maid. Kumud Mishra wins hearts while Ratna Pathak Shah takes the cake in a crucial sequence in the second half. Tanvi Azmi is decent but her character is crucial and does very well in an important scene in the climax. Ram Kapoor is dependable as always. Dia Mirza has less screen time but is memorable. The other actor also performed well and commendable. Even the song 'Ek Tukda Dhoop' is great and has a lingering effect. All in all, Thappad is a powerful saga that deserves to be watched, appreciated and encouraged. Don't Miss!

A big applause to the makers of the film. I couldn't have been more grateful for watching the movie. All the actors have done a great job. This movie does strike you hard especially if you have been through certain things.Honestly, there is so much inside me right now but I hope I was able to express enough about the movie. I hope after watching this movie, people who have been in a toxic relationships stand up for themselves and their respect.
