The word Aiyaar means shape-shifter – someone who can become someone else at will. The Arabic word was popularized by the landmark Hindi novel Chandrakanta. I suspect that director Neeraj Pandey who has also written the film fell in love with the word first and then reverse-engineered a story around it. Because Aiyaary is half-baked, simplistic and for the most part, a slog.
it is Bajpai's impeccable acting and the makeup used to disguise both Bajpai and Malhotra. Although a film lacking in totality in comparison to Pandey's debut, 'A Wednesday' which is well...A movie with little or no mistakes at all such flawless was this work with an elite cast of 2 of the best actors of Bollywood (Shah and Kher), 'Aiyaari' still succeeds to be a smart production heavily influenced by the ways of the West. Bajpai's incredible performance in this film is also furthered by his accent which he marvelously displayed aligned with his strict yet impressive persona characterised by even his style of walking which could be clearly sighted when he finally goes to meet Baburam(Shah). Kher and Shah, the veterans have delivered an accepting performance with their minor roles. Kumud Mishra a.k.a Gurinder Singh played a smart antagonist prone to the fears of a senior and defeat with appropriate reactions. His performance was praiseworthy apart from that one scene where his reaction involved throwing his arms downward after he hears an undesirable news on phone. The music keeps the tempo of the action thriller. Some insights to the film which I felt are vital are as follows.
Marking his second collaboration with Shah and Bajpai and third one with Kher, as a director Pandey chooses a very ingenious yet prevalent and appropriate theme for his film 'Aiyaari'. If there are two elements of this file that will literally move you out of your wits, it is Bajpai's impeccable acting and the makeup used to disguise both Bajpai and Malhotra. His performance was praiseworthy apart from that one scene where his reaction involved throwing his arms downward after he hears an undesirable news on phone. The music keeps the tempo of the action thriller. Some insights to the film which I felt are vital are as follows. The particular part where Malhotra a.k.a Bakshi decides to toss his coin in order to aid him in making a decision takes place twice in the film, the latter of which also involves an Indian ten rupee coin as in the former case. But Bakshi is obviously expected to carry currency of the nation he was then residing in and hence a coin of London would be more appropriate unless of course it was revealed that that particular Indian ten rupee has a special significance. Also, Bajpayee a.k.a Abhay being a true spirited and morally rational and samaritan, wouldn't risk the lives of innocents for an assassination attempt on anyone and hence, the fact that he didn't care to ensure so while negotiating the deal with Hussain a.k.a Mukesh Kapoor disheartened me. The opening scene was a boosting one and a rather cheer-deserving one cleanly presented by Bajpayee with his incredibly smart demeanour. I give this film a 3.5/5.
