Rajkumar Hirani is a very skilled director and story teller who creates powerful scenes that move us and make us weep. But after watching Sanju i felt that, the story it tells is not untrue, it's just the convenient half-truth , Hirani and Joshi twisted and edited the life story of Sanjay Dutt the star and member of Bollywood Royalty, forgetting that most of it has played out in the glare of public eye. On the other hand the more i think of Ranbir Kapoor and how he has put his heart and soul into the role , how his performance breathes life into and lifts this otherwise dull and dishonest film , the anger i get.
Another epic movie by director rajkumar hirani, Sanju touches the heart of the viewers. It is a biopic based on the life of bollywood actor sanjay dutt played by ranbir kapoor. The film revolves around sanjay dutt`s former life and all his ups and downs during his life. The acting of ranbir kappor is also remarkable, making his best movies till now. The movie tries to clear the cloudiness of sanjay dutt`s life with humor and meaning. Not only the viewers find the movie captivating but also motivating as they finds out the struggle faced by this bollywood actor. The movies apart from entertaining provides optimism in the way sanjay dutt overcomes all the obstacles and became a bollywood star. This is a sure shot movie which youngsters should definitely watch.
Rajkumar Hirani's "Sanju" is a true gem of a biopic. The movie works mostly due to Ranbir Kapoor's convincing and strong performance of Sanjay Dutt. Not only does he perfectly capture the dialogue presented in the film, but he also gets all of Dutt's movements and mannerisms down almost perfectly. The film feels like a combination of two different movies. The first half is an addiction drama and the second is a bold critique of the media. All of it is fascinating and entertaining to watch. While Kapoor is clearly the star of the movie all of the supporting work is also top notch. The movie is an emotional rollercoaster that keeps you guessing at every turn. One sequence, in particular, is very moving and handled extremely well. Dutt is not always portrayed as likable but a flawed character is always the most compelling, and by the end of it, he becomes someone you can root for. Overall, it is a fantastic movie that I loved experiencing and felt inspired and moved by.
Amazing acting by Rabir Kapoor ,Vicky Kausal and others .. but the story was not engaging as I expected .. when u watch a Raju Hirani film .before entering the hall ..movies that play in ur mind are PK ,3Idiots ,Munna Bhai mbbs which are absolute emotional rollercoaster . But maybe the story was so unbelievable ... For a single man to live such a life ,kind of makes it so unrelatable for us that it turns out more of a image clearing documentary.
Best movie of ranbir kapoor till now what makes the movie worth watching is Ranbir Kapoor's heart stealing performance as Sanju Baba. He absolutely nails it in terms of picking up Baba's mannerisms and voice to a large extent. But the job is half done. The rest is shouldered by his impeccable acting and performance. Ranbir Kapoor is the whole and soul of this movie. He is still handicapped by the script but he made the most of what he was given and made it a memorable performance. This performance of his is definitely among his top 3 which includes Rockstar and Tamasha. The rest cast also has stalwarts like Paresh Rawal playing Sanju's father in Sunil Dutt and he perfectly portrays a calm persona that was Sunil Dutt sahab. Vicky Kaushal as Sanju's best friend Kamli is outstanding
The film has everything right from a spoiled rich kid under pressure of the legacy of his parents, drugs, terrorism charges. That has been the past 37 years of Baba' career and Raju has tried portraying it on celluloid in his own style involving humour which has worked wonderfully well for his past films. But it sadly does not work in Sanju. The entire first half is spent on Baba's drug problem, on his fight with it. The main issues and controversy of his terrorism are introduced late but up until then you are already feeling bad for Baba as was the main intention of the film it seems. To show the other side of the story and show Baba in a sympathetic light.
Sanju it is basically a biopic of Sanjay dutt wherein it shows that how Sanjay dutt sufferd form drugs and how he overcame all obstacles and how he made his life peacefull. It also shows that in which part did Sanjay dutt click in his life and how did going to jail bought changes in him . It also shows how his father stood behind him . Ranbir Kapoor has played the role of Sanjay dutt. Ranbir has really given life to the movie . An extremely good movie
I just loved this movie and really came to know very well about Mr.Sanjay Dutt and his life. Truely an inspiring story of him. The way he struggled in life and he overcame all the bad things inspired me alot. Direction is just awesome. Each and every character have done complete justice. Easily can watch more than thrice.
Seldom Bollywood produces a movie which meets the expectations. With all the hype around the biography of leading bollywood superstar sanjay dutt, the film came out with flying colors on the first week. A well directed movie as expected by rajkumar hirani added with the brilliant acting of ranbir kapoor makes sure you stay on the edge of your seat throughout the movie. Its like being on a rollercoaster of emotions, unrevealing part by part. The movie surely meets the expectation and hype all around it. We can easily say "Sanju" as the best movie of the year going head to head with padmavaat. All in all it's a must see for all the fans out there as seldom we see such good movies being made in Bollywood
The most awaited movie of the year released today and turns out all the hype around it was worth it. Helmed by director #RajkumarHirani & co-writer Abhijaat Joshi, #Sanju is a autobiography of actor Sanjay Dutt's enigmatic life. Casting director Mukesh Chhabra brings to us an ensemble cast which merges reel into real effortlessly. #RanbirKapoor owns the movie and his portrayal as the drug addict, playboy, dad fearing Sanjay Dutt who gets caught in the wrong side of the law, is majestic and mind blowing. It is undoubtedly his best performance till date and he is sure to win accolades galore for this over the top performance. The directorial team went to great lengths in ensuring every frame of Sanjay Dutt does justice to his effervescent style and charismatic persona which makes him a loved public figure
When you have a director of the capability of Raju Hirani, an actor of Ranbir's calibre and the controverial lifestory of one of the most iconic superstars of Bollywood in Sanjay Dutt, expectations will be very high. Atleast I, had tons of expectations, the trailer looked amazing. But alas, I was disappointed at how ordinary and average the film was.
Awesome movie what makes the movie worth watching is Ranbir Kapoor's heart stealing performance as Sanju Baba. He absolutely nails it in terms of picking up Baba's mannerisms and voice to a large extent. But the job is half done. The rest is shouldered by his impeccable acting and performance. Its a fab movie. It showcases the life of sanjay dutt - the mistakes he made, the consequences he faced, how he fights with them, how he emerges from them, how his father faced that and made him a better sanju that we all love now. It is more focused on personal front of sanju - relationships with his father, his mother, his friend. They are all the major factors in his life to make hik what he is. Yup there are people saying that it doesn't shows him in bad light or negative parts but to be honest, one can't suffice everything in 3 hours. They haven't shown many things like his first wife or first daughter or his parols or when his exact relationship with underworld but then again, hirani had made clear that his focus was more on what's happening inside on personal front in Sanjay Dutt's life when everything is going on and not on what is going on. There are many documentaries made on that which you can see. This is something that's within the walls and not came out. Anyways it depends on you how you judge it. One can't make everyone happy but still its worth seeing once before making any judgements.
The film starts off with Sanjay Dutt (Ranbir Kapoor) wanting a writer for his biography even while he's preparing to surrender himself to the Supreme Court's judgement in the Arms Act case. A film writer fails him miserably, so Sanju turns to a more established writer Winnie (Anushka Sharma) to pen his biography. His confessions and recollections to Winnie are intimate and give us deep insights into the highs and lows of his life, which is nothing short of a roller-coaster ride. Like any Rajkumar Hirani film, Sanju blends humour with drama effortlessly. While it doesn't reveal much about the protagonists’ relationships and marriages, it does tell a strong story of an unbreakable bond between a father, son and a best friend. In fact, Sanjay’s relationship with his father Sunil Dutt (Paresh Rawal) forms the major part of this story and some of the most heart wrenching and touching moments in the film belong to both of them.
Like all of Rajkumar Hirani’s films, Sanju is detailed, well-written and has plenty of memorable moments. The father-son saga, the many references to old Hindi film music and lyricists is fantastic. With Sanjay Dutt’s biopic, Hirani has been able to put his personal friendship aside and present an engaging story with the kind of finesse it needs. The film has a critique that establishes Sanjay Dutt as the king of bad choices. Sanju is definitely one of the year’s best films, but it could have been so.much more. Even with what’s missing, this is still an incredible story of an actor, a hero but most importantly a son who made many mistakes and live one heck of a life.
The 160-minute film, essentially a touching father-son drama that also pays tribute to some of Hindi cinema's greatest lyricists, glides through its busy, pulsating narrative without suffering anything akin to an ungainly wobble. Kapoor shines bright. That is actually an understatement. He dazzles us; he catches us unawares; and he sweeps us off our feet. In one word, he is luminous.
On the whole, SANJU is an entertaining saga that blends emotions, humour and drama in adequate doses. It is powerful, engaging, emotional as well as compelling. The combination of Rajkumar Hirani and Ranbir Kapoor works like a dream. At the box office, despite not being a ‘typical Rajkumar Hirani family entertainer’, SANJU will score tremendously and emerge as a Monstrous Hit! Don’t miss it!
After coming out from cinema hall, not a single scene i remember...Expected a lot from the director considering his previous movies and the hype it created around... only thing highlighted in this movie is creating a good image of sanjay dutt..too many shades of his lives remain untouched...cant call it a biopic...the movie was not all an all bad but cant call it as a masterpiece or something...Sanju begins with a disclaimer that it’s not an image cleaning exercise for Sanjay Dutt. To emphasise his point, Hirani brings in the plot of a biographer, played initially by Piyush Mishra and then the mantle is taken up by another unbiased writer Vinnie Roy, played by Anushka Sharma.
Through Hirani and Abhijat Joshi’s astute writing, Kapoor builds up the Dutt persona beautifully in the first half. But then the film turns kind towards its bad boy; we start feeling sorry for him, which may have been the intention, but the film becomes less interesting from that point on. Still, what we get, and how we get it, in Sanju, is mostly engaging, and some of it good enough to make you laugh out loud in pleasure, especially when Hirani is killing it. But you wonder too what the film chose to leave out, and you wonder if this would have been more of a film if those things had been in here.
Powerful... Engaging... Emotional... Compelling... Rajkumar Hirani proves, yet again, he’s a master storyteller... This one will be a MONSTROUS HIT. Making a biopic isn’t child’s play, but Hirani and co-writer Abhijat Joshi encompass pertinent episodes from Dutt’s life to weave a spellbinding screenplay... #Sanju is an emotional journey... Goes beyond providing mere entertainment and emerges triumphant.
