I don't care what critics say, I have not laughed this hard at a movie in a long time. The fact that it really is based on a true story of a 22yr long game of tag played by friends just blows the mind. Many of the scenes in this movie are based around real scenarios from the actual groups game. To add to the absurdity of the story, they shoot the take downs like full on crazy action sequences from a jason bourne film. It really is a fun film, and worth a watch if you want a good laugh.
Funny but not enough. If you like movies like hangover, you wouldn't like this one. It's about the difficulty of staying friends and finding ways to stay in touch beyond Facebook or Instagram. Though editing and cinematography made it a fine funny , happy type movie but still.. for a movie snob . This just doesn't work. The cast and acting is great. The movie has its moments and ending is sweet. Overall, a fine movie.
Liked this one. The lengths to which to the main characters go to win a game of tag get so insanely hilarious in this. Good cast too, the highlights are Ed Helms as the lead who goes to the greatest extremes to catch Renner, Isla Fisher as Helms' wife who is even more extreme than him, and Jeremy Renner as the cocky, strategic mastermind they've never caught. One nitpick: There is a romantic triangle subplot between Jon Hamm, Jake Johnson, and Rashida Jones' character that is devoid of laughs and chemistry and stops the whole film cold. Luckily, it doesn't take up much of the film's time. This also doesn't feel like a repeated viewing to me. As I said, it's funny and worth a theater price, but the jokes aren't the types that didn't leave me wanting to revisit them.
Fun movie. Nothing spectacular. I enjoyed the chemistry and dynamics between the cast. They genuinely looked like they were having a blast, which puts you, the viewer, in a good mood. Even though it was fun, I didn't laugh as much as I thought I would. I chuckled a few times, and smiled a few times, but no real belly laughs. I also felt that the 'tag' gimmick was a nice backdrop, but I don't think it was enough to really round out a full length movie completely. Feels like it would've made for a fun Seinfeld episode where a friend from Jerry and George's past comes back to renew a game of tag that never had a decisive conclusion. Overall, I did enjoy myself, but it wasn't without flaws.
There aren't a lot of laugh out loud moments in this movie but it still has a lot of funny moments. There is a fair amount of physical comedy and it is done much, much better than anything since A Fish Called Wanda. Annabelle Wallis is good as a Wall Street Journal reporter who struggles to accept the reality of the game. Isla Fisher is a bit too over the top at times but has it dialed back in a brief but important scene about halfway through. Just a fun, light-hearted comedy that entertains for 90 min. Great cast who looked like they had fun making the movie too.The twist at the end was well done and provides a definitive answer to a question posed earlier in the movie by the reporter.
Didn't have high expectations with Tag, but it's fun enough to be a reasonably good comedy based on a very unlikely true story. The lengths to which to the main characters go to win a game of tag get so insanely hilarious in this. Hogan (Ed Helms) has been playing tag every May for 30 years with his friends and as the end of May nears he gets the gang together in order to finally tag Jerry (Jeremy Renner) who has so far eluded them. The set up is very stretched as Hogan tags Bob (John Hamm) in the middle of a Wall Street Journal interview and the reporter is so interested she comes along to document it. (The film is based on a WSJ article). When they arrive in their home town, with Hogan's wife (Isla Fisher) also in toe, it's game on tag Jerry before he gets married and (apparently) retires. There are some very funny scenes, it's crude as you'd expect and nothing is off limits...well, except for one type of tagging. As far as silly comedies go it's not bad, I had some fun, but not overly memorable either.
Very funny movie. Some film critics thought the characters absurd, but I think they are missing the point that this could only have been made based on a true story. Staying connected to high school and college friends is poignant and deeply meaningful, but can also bring out one's old immature tendencies. This movie gets that exactly right. With a charismatic cast and virtually no story lag, Tag is the perfect comedy to spend 100 minutes with a positive feeling afterwards. While nothing revolutionary is done in the film, it has solid writing and competent filming. However the real draw is the chemistry between the cast.
