Aayushman khurana has been delivering movies on social issues and has been nailing those roles again and again. Bala too, will be considered as one of his finest performance because he potrays the emotions so nicely that even though you laugh at some scenes, you still feel sad for him. The supporting cast also nails and fit perfectly in there roles. The UP accent, family drama, all these things make you believe that indeed you are in kanpur. Yami Gautam also has been given some good scenes and has played her role nicely. Just one problem with the film was the casting of bhumi pednekar. The make up done on her is really distracting whenever she comes in screen and also just opposes to the social message that the film wants to deliver. Still you ignore this because of the way Bhumi played the character of Latika and you feel for her from the first scene itself. Constantly entertaining and not even a single dull moment ! Go for it !!
Bala is a good family entertainer .. the story is based on a situation which is faced by many people and also there is a hidden message with it - to live life in a natural way. The story is really good and of course the acting of Ayushman Khurana is very good.
Bala is the perfect family watch for any indian family, Ayushmann nails it in the titular role of Bala and so do Bhumi and Yami in their respective roles, it the perfect mix of comedy, drama and the underlying message of removing the social stereotypes based on physical apperance. A big thumbs up !!
The story starts in the summer of 2003 when our Balmukund, who is still a schoolboy, is drenched in the pride of having the best lehrate kaale baal’. Bala is the Shah Rukh Khan of the school and loves to attract attention through his mimicry skills. He is so proud of his hair and good looks that he doesn’t hesitate to make fun of his bald teacher by calling him takla and humiliating his dark-complexioned classmate in front of the entire school.Circa 2016 in Kanpur, Bala (Ayushmann Khurrana) has lost all his pride. His balding head, which he says women spot before they see the full moon on a Karva Chauth night, has crushed his self-confidence. His girlfriend of 15 years has left him for a guy who looks exactly like him (there’s a surprise for you) but with more hair on his head. He gets demoted in his marketing job of selling fairness cream. Now starts the struggle. From putting a mix of buffalo’s dung and bull’s semen on his scalp to doing every asana possible, Bala tries hundreds of remedies to get his pride back but to no use. In his entire struggle, he has a strong support of his lovely family - his parents (Saurabh Shukla and Sunita Rajbar), his brother (Dheerendra Kumar Gautam, who comes out to be a surprise package) and friends (Abhishek Banerjee and Jaaved Jaaferi).
Bala is engaging for its comical touches and Ayushmann Khurrana's performance. Movie is build on wonderful concept that is very important to address not only in India, but in the whole world . Bhumi pednekar and yami gautam also acted well. Over all nice movie .
Self-love is a shortcut to spirituality" I read in a self-help book. But in a world which is constantly surrounded by the so called high-called selfie cameras canoodling on selfie sticks bolstered by a pervasive social media, the compare and despair effect and the FOMO is inevitable. So, the question of self-acceptance never arises. Humans essentially being a social animal always wants to fit in, no one likes being left out. Most of the time as socially inept as we are, we go out of our way to prove who we really are and what's our worth. Adding fuel to the fire a man with a receding hairline has more insecurities and endures a trauma both psychologically and socially seeking validation. But why do we need society's approval anyway?? What exactly are we chasing here?? Those are some of the impending but important questions which the latest film "BALA" attempts to pose.
I don't understand why this half baked movie was even made. The first half was built up well but through uneven scripting and haphazard direction, the second half felt rushed. There was a lack of clarity towards the end. Please don't make movies with a social message unless you know how to impact the audience. The message is great but the delivery is poor.
A good concept doesn't always guarantee a Good film ! What could be a great 90 mins of entertainment ,ended up being a 140 mins of confused product.. Unnecessarily stretched and tried to cover too many dots.. It's Ayushman's movie all the way and he shines, but Yamigautam is the Cherry on the cake . She impresses alot and couple of her scenes are just brilliant.. Bhumi pednekars character is problematic and after a while sounds caricaturist Wait for it to be premiere on Netflix or prime, that way you can easily skip some of the proceedings..!
Ayushmann Khurrana’s playing of the once plentiful now scarce sar ki kheti Balmukund Shukla is so spot-on that you forget the man ever had any hair on his head. And on his chin, arms, chest, and err, presumably, nether regions: all those body parts usually covered with a healthy, glossy, manly pelt. Amar Kaushik’s film is both loud and subtle as it tracks Bala’s journey from a boisterous chick-magnet adolescence to a craven manhood.
