It was a great family-entertainer. Funny and inspiring. Rajkummar Rao was very good in his role. Saurabhji and Satishji had made a great duo together in the film. The film was slow at some parts, but direction was also nice. Some plot points were unnecessary and very over-dramatic. But the writing was very desi and awesome.

It's a asusual sports film where in hero or his team wins at the end after a tough fight. But what makes the film intriguing is the screenplay, dialogues and portrayal of emotions. If you want to see a feel good film, chhalaang is for you. There are no lags in the screenplay, however certain scenes are brought in to uplift emotions which to me felt artificial. Rajkumar Rao steals the show as always, the supporting actor and actress too performed well. Songs are pleasant, especially Honey Singh's song at the end of the film was peppy and cool.Chhalaang - Another gem to RR's and Nushrat's crowns.

This movie deserves an extra star for its acting. Every actor has performed exceptionally well. Story was good and message behind that was also good, but it could have been exceptionally well if it had been treated much better. Direction wise it was fine, but still the core of the film i.e. it's message should have been much better as it was expected by its name. Overall, it's a good movie.

This is a motivational movie which tells you to never give up and just keep trying till you achieve success. It makes the viewer that even when everything goes south and there's no chance to win, just keep trying and if still you don't succeed you'll learn from failure and will bounce back or will atleast have a sense of satisfaction that I tried my level best.

Believe me this is an excellent movie with a very good message. Rajkumar Rao has been the standout actor as usual and I think he is the finest actor in Bollywood right now! Sourabh Shukla and Nushrat are exceptional as well. Really encouraging movie for the students of this country. Music of the movie is also very good. Hansal Mehta has yet again done a fine job with his direction in this movie.

A great sports movie which teaches every parents to let their children play sports so that we too can become a sports powerhouse not just in cricket but all the other sports. Rajkumar Rao is brilliant as Montu a P.T. teacher and so is Zeeshan Ayub. Nushhratt bharuchha is good as a computer teacher and all other artists including Saurabh Shukla, Satish Kaushik and the children are good. The title song is very inspiring. Do watch this movie as it is inspiring and one of the very good sports movie.

This movie is an entertainment movie, as the whole cast of the movie is outstanding, so indubitably acting is awesome. Refreshing change of pace aside all multi starrer and big budget movies this one is a gem from the Luv Ranjan camp. I didn't even find a single second during the movie where I got bored. Each and every scene has some sense of acting humor and comic timing is great.

Simple, Crisp, Clean and Entertaining. It is not just the movie plot that is good to watch, it is also the effort of every actor that makes this movie fun to watch. It is very rare to see in today's Hindi movies supporting actors get the same amount of screen and footage as the lead actors. Director Hansal Mehta has justified the role of every character. Shaurab Shukla, Satish Kaushik, Ila Arun every one played their part very well.

The film starts off well with humor at parts to keep you live and alive with entertainment , the characters are also well written and the chemistry goes well between Rajkumar Rao and Nushrat Barucha, the film takes a predictable turn once the love triangle is established on the entry of Zeeshan Ayub, the film is decently well made with all efforts in direction, acting ,humor and screenplay put together making it watchable ,the film as it progess towards end struggles between sports drama & love genre . Few Scenes towards the end lack logic and general reasoning , by the mid of the film you know what's going to be the climax that flat predictability is what draws down the film . Full marks for the dialogues , impeccable comic time and the chemistry between the lead pair . All and all its a film that you can watch once with your family , the whole cast has delivered amazing performance and the entertainment quotient keeps the film a bit on track and alive .

Chhalaang is really a must-watch film..it is sure to please anyone with it's simple and realistic story, strong acting of the entire cast and the funny twists and turns throughout!! I realized that Rajkumar Rao is truly a brilliant actor after watching this. All the emotions were so realistic and heart touching..it conveys really a good message about sports which should be considered as an important part of education and promotes gender equality in a subtle way. Supporting actors like Nusrat Bharucha, Satish Shukla and Mohammed Zayeesh Ayyub also did their part really well.

A movie I set forth watching with really high expectations. Rajkumar, Luv Ranjan and Hansal Mehta. Rajkumar is always sincere as an actor but even he can't carry a no story movie. Luv Ranjan who shares writing credits is known for vibrance and lively stories fails to inspire. You keep on waiting for something worthwhile to happen something inspirational so much so that it becomes a drag and you are glad it's over. Out of six, two stars are for one liners and some quirky laughs in the first half.

Rajkummar Rao and rest of the star cast act brilliantly. But the story is routine, and it's treatment, execution very ordinary. The climax is very weak. Background music is standard; hence the desired impact of the critical scenes are lessened to a great extent. The film could have been 15-20 mins less. The direction isn't extraordinary. So overall the film turns to be average. Music is decent. It's a one time watch.

Another master stroke of the best director Hansal Mehta. Comedy, drama movie called Chhalaang has been released. It would be nice to see comedy in the movie as well as sports and the love performance of the teacher. There is nothing to be said about Rajkumar Rao's performance, he has shown enough acting prowess in this movie too. Viewers who like to watch the sports will enjoy watching the film. And the story becomes even more thrilling if a little wicked sweet love story goes along with it. My Verdict : a) Directions - 4/5 b) Soundtrack - 3.8/5 c) Acting - 4/5 d) Visuals - 3.8/5 Directed by : Hansal Mehta Genre : Comedy, Sports, Drama Cast : Rajkumar Rao , Nusrat and many more Language : Hindi Rating : 13+

Chhalaang's most genuine attribute are its actors. Satish Kaushik as Montu's serene father sharing pearls of wisdom over Scotch is a treat. Baljinder Kaur's eternally protesting mom brings on the spunk. Saurabh Shukla's reliable support and Ila Arun's spontaneous sass spice the proceedings. As competent Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub is in Chhalaang, he is shockingly sidelined for a formidable foe. Ditto for the delightful Naman Jain, you'll remember him as the adorable Katrina Kaif fan in Bombay Talkies, whose romantic arc is abruptly nipped in the bud to focus on a routine hubba hubba. On the other hand, Nushrratt gets some of the meatiest lines which she bungles with her wobbly Haryanvi accent. Hands down, the star of the show is Rajkummar Rao. There's not much challenge for him in terms of histrionics or characterisation. What he infuses Montu with is tons of earnest, endearing energy.

Chhalaang comes from the stable of Hansal Mehta who apart from several other TV shows and films is specially regarded for his solid cerebral stuff in Aligarh and Shahid. Chhalaang revolves around an accidental sports teacher, played by his long time muse Rajkumar Rao, whose inability to persevere beyond a point, has been his undoing for a good part of his growing up years. Chhalaang is all about that “leap” that he eventually takes to prove himself - to his lady love.... and beyond!

The movie is about a reckless and lazy PE Teacher in school, where he falls in love with the herione who is a teacher. The movie is about how he transforms into a good teacher with the help of all characters in the movie. It is a comical yet inspirational movie. The actors did a great job in the movie. Kudos to the team for that. The movie, which sends out a message to all the parents, can be watched anytime with your family. Special mention to Rajkumar Rao.

A very generic sports drama. Since it comes from the director-actor duo of very high repute who have given us some superbly crafted stories (Aligarh, Shahid, Omerta), its all the more disappointing. The movie has too many things on its mind. Wants to teach us token feminism, wants to make comment about moral policing and also wants to sneak in the message about importance of sports. But it does none of these in a coherent manner. Protagonist is a quitter, leads romeo squad, doesn't appreciate his role as PTI teacher...in short, there is nothing likeable about him. But the heroine (a feminist, no less) loses her heart to him in precisely 2 scenes and after one daaru party. First half is actually a drag as the conflict is set for a sports competition (premise is cringeworthy, to say the least). Second half focuses on extremely silly training techniques to beat up the kids into a team of sorts. The final contest is quite lame and extremely predictable, including an injured athlete coming back and winning the championship. The performances, on the other hand, are quite good. Rajkumar is in good form, so is Zeeshan. Nusrat Bharucha is a big miscast. Her haryanvi act is inconsistent. Kids do a better job and are endearing. Overall, the only reason to sit through this movie was that it was the most kid friendly movie among the limited options available.

Montu and Neelu’s meet-cute is very oddly written too. A part-time member of an “anti-Romeo” squad who go around beating up couples on Valentine’s Day, Montu (strangely) harasses a middle-aged couple in a park. He even takes a picture of them, and gets it published in the local newspaper under a headline suggesting how today’s youth are bringing back ‘sanskaar’. The couple happen to be Neelu’s parents. And even though Neelu publicly berates Montu (after joining his school as a computer teacher) for what he did, hence clearing the screenwriter’s conscience of depicting the ‘correct’ kind of politics, it’s a situation that’s played entirely for laughs. Montu’s involvement with the fringe outfit is never mentioned again. The makers don’t really care about what they’re showing, as long as it is ‘topical’ and ‘entertaining’. The only thing more convenient than Montu’s sudden change of heart, is Neelu going from being disgusted to saying ‘daaru pilaoge?’ (of course, because she’s a ‘progressive’ small-town girl), all in the span of a Guru Randhawa song.

Life posted a review for Chhalaang (2020) in Movies
There is the tale of the hypocritical conservative hooligan in small-town Haryana who gets violent with couples seen publicly hanging out together, until he falls for a woman himself. There is the fellow who takes his career lightly until life gives him an electric shock. There is the immature contest between two grown men over “naukri” (job) and “chhokri” (not the most respectful Hindi word for “girl”). And then there is a sports drama. Montu, of course, is the central figure in all four. The woman he loves is Neelima (Nushrratt Bharuccha) and his bête noire is Inder Mohan Singh (Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub). When he is not intimidating and beating up hapless men and women whose behaviour does not conform to his idea of decency, Montu is a Physical Training Instructor in a local school. This is not a profession he chose out of passion, but one that fell in his lap when his Dad (Satish Kaushik) asked a friend (Ila Arun) to give him a job, never mind what. Montu neglects his students but is startled out of his complacency one day when a dapper and committed Inder enters the picture

The real hero Rajkumar Rao is back with his charm and to give us a non ending comedy. Movie chhalang is based on the life of Rajkumar Rao and his tragical expectations of finding a PTI job and a well suited girl for himself. Then he meet Nusrat at his same school where she is a computer teacher. They start a god bond between them but a new sports teacher come in between two of them. Movie is overall good but the best part is music . I love all of them .

CHHALAANG is the story of a disinterested sports coach finding meaning in life. Mahinder Hooda aka Montu (Rajkummar Rao) is a PTI (Physical Training Instructor) in Sir Chotu Ram School in Jhajjar, Haryana. In his teenage years, he had participated in cricket and athletic tournaments from the same school. But he quit sports after he didn't make it to the state team. Similarly, he also left law when he realized that he'll have to read lots of heavy books. This is when his father (Satish Kaushik) recommended his name to the school's principal Ushal Gehlot (Ila Arun). Hence, she hired him. Montu is not quite interested in doing his job as he believes that sports are not going to help the students. He also indulges in other activities in school, one of them being assaulting couples roaming in a park. During one such session, he ends up harassing a middle-aged couple (Rajeev Gupta and Suparna Marwah). The next day, Neelima aka Neelu (Nushrratt Bharuccha) joins the school as a computer teacher. Montu gets attracted to her and this is when Neelu reveals to him that the middle-aged couple were her parents! She also blasts him for being the moral police. Montu realizes his mistake. Slowly, both Montu and Neelu grow closer. Montu wants to take the relationship to the next level. But before that can happen, there comes a twist in the tale. Inder Mohan Singh (Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub), a certified sports trainer, joins the school as PTI. Montu is demoted to being an assistant PTI though his salary still remains the same. Montu obviously protests but the principal doesn't pay heed. Inder arrives and starts giving hard training to the students. He also gets friendly with Neelu, further angering Montu. Singh realizes Montu is jealous and taunts him. An angry Montu assaults Singh. The principal tells Montu to apologize to Singh. He refuses at first and then requests her to hold a competition between two teams of the school. One team would be trained by Singh and the other by Montu. Further, Singh will have the advantage of selecting the best students. Montu asks the principal that if his team loses, he’d resign and he expects vice versa from Singh. Singh gives his nod. The principal, too, agrees and selects three sports for the tournament - basketball, 400 meters relay race and kabaddi. What happens next forms the rest of the film.
